Why spend a fortune on pricey detox juice cleanses when you can make your own? Flush the liver, energise your body, reduce high blood pressure and headaches with these delicious recipes from Kamalaya Wellness Sanctuary and Holistic Spa.


Body Cleanse

This potent body cleanser is high in nutrients and antioxidants and particularly beneficial for the liver and gallbladder. Energetically cooling to the body, benefits include balancing high blood pressure and reducing headaches. Makes about 700ml.

Ingredients:

750g carrots, hard end removed

400g beetroot

220g cucumber

180g celery

25ml lemon Juice, peeled

10g parsley

Method:

Use a juicer to extract juices from all the ingredients. Stir well and serve.

Kamalaya Detox Juice

A good accompaniment to any meal, this juice contains coconut water, a clear liquid extracted from very young (green) coconuts, which is good for rehydration and electrolytes. It is a natural rehydration beverage for hot climates and post-exercise training. Coconut water aids in reducing fevers, calming nervous and emotional imbalances, the breaking down of kidney and bladder stones, and flushing the liver. It is a potent detoxifying agent, which neutralises toxins in the blood. Makes about 700ml.

Ingredients:

500ml coconut water

500g pineapple

10g basil leaf


Method:

Use a juicer to extract the juice from the pineapple and basil. Pour the extracted juice into a blender and add the coconut water and an ice cube. Blend on medium speed for about 30 seconds.

Papaya Bee Smoothie
This delicious smoothie boosts intestinal immunity and enhances energy. Bee pollen contains trace amounts of minerals and vitamins and is very high in protein and carbohydrates.

Ingredients:

350ml goat’s milk yoghurt

250g papaya

20g bee pollen

80g mango

1 tsp honey


Method:

Place all ingredients into a blender, add an ice cube and blend on medium speed for 30 seconds.

Detox Papaya Smoothie

This smoothies is soothing and nourishing to the digestive system.

Ingredients:

350ml pumpkin or sunflower seed milk (see below)

200g papaya

10g lime

10g ginger



Method:

Place all ingredients into a blender, add an ice cube and blend on medium speed for about 30 seconds.

Pumpkin or Sunflower Seed Milk

Ingredients:

350g pumpkin or sunflower seeds

1L distilled water

100g raisins


Method:

Place the seeds, raisins and warm water in a blender, and blend on medium for about 1 minute. Strain mixture through a fine sieve and discard pulp.

Note: If time allows, it is best to soak the seeds in water overnight before blending (strain and discard the soaking water). Makes 1L.

Red Zinger

The refreshing juice stimulates and cleanses the liver and gallbladder, and promotes skin renewal.


Ingredients:

960g carrot

265g cucumber

520g beetroot

40g ginger



Method:


Use juice to extract juices. Stir well and serve.
