5 Immune Boosting Recipes For Winter
Getting ready for winter? Here are 5 natural remedies to have on hand to boost your immunity, prevent colds, clear sinuses, ease coughs and soothe sore throats.
Tonic To Boost Your Immunity
2 cups honey
1/2 cup garlic cloves, crushed
1/2 cup grated fresh ginger
Warm honey over low heat (do not boil). Place the garlic and ginger in a jar with a tight-fitting lid and pour the warm honey over them. Shake the jar well. Refrigerate and use with 2 weeks. Take a spoonful of this tonic at the first sign or a cold/flu or take daily as a preventative. You can also make a tea with a spoonful of this tonic in warm water or add to a cup of green or white tea.
Warm Lemonade To Fight Cold And Flu
1 cup boiling water
Juice of 2 lemons
Honey to taste
2 dashes of cayenne pepper
Mix all the ingredients together. Drink several times a day until your cold is gone.
Ginger Tea To Clear Sinuses
4 cups water
5cm ginger, peeled and sliced into thin strips
Bring the water to a boil in a saucepan, then add the ginger. Reduce heat to simmer for 20 minutes. Strain ginger from the liquid and drink. Add honey and lemon to taste.
Thyme-Infused Honey For Coughs And Sore Throats
1/2 cup fresh thyme, washed and dried
1 cup honey
Warm the honey in a saucepan (do not boil). Add the thyme and steep for 15-20 minutes. Allow the mixture to cool and strain out the thyme.
Pour the honey into a glass, wide-mouthed jar with a rubber-sealed lid. Store in a cool, dark place. Use one teaspoon three times daily.
Tea To Relieve Fever Symptoms
• Juice of 1 lemon
• 1 teaspoon of finely chopped fresh ginger
• Pinch of fresh chilli
• 1-2 cloves of finely chopped garlic
• 1-2 teaspoons Manuka honey
Add boiling water and cover for 10 minutes. Rug up, stay warm and enjoy two cups.
