5 Sydney Facials You Need To Indulge In Before You Die

It’s a hard life, but somebody’s gotta do it.

I’ve never been a girly girl. Pink isn’t my fave shade, there’s no way in hell I could tell you how to properly sandbag, strobe or contour, nor would I be able to point out the the top trends on the runway this season.

So it should come as no surprise, then, that I had never had a facial. When our beauty editor found out, she almost fell to the floor. How could I, a 23 year-old woman, have never experienced the exhilarating delight of an in-salon skincare treatment?

To be honest, I found the whole concept quite strange. Why would I pay strangers to rub smelly creams into my face when it’s something I could do at home? Plus, I could spend that money on new clothes, a night out or a massage instead. But after weeks of being forced to listen to nagging and ardent reviews, I finally caved to the pressure of my coworkers and booked myself in. Needless to say, I’m now addicted, and in a very short time I’ve managed to rack up five facials, and not just any five (this job is not without its perks), these are some of the best skincare treatments Sydney has to offer.

So when you’re next visiting Australia’s most beautiful city, be sure to try one of these facials out, you won’t be disappointed…

1. Trumps Spa at InterContinental Sydney Double Bay, Double Bay

The facial: 42-step Payot Plump & Boost Collagen Facial

I’d heard rave reviews of Trumps Spa’s 42-step Payot Plump & Boost Collagen Facial – and now it was my turn. Forty-two separate steps seemed unnecessarily OTT, but as the treatment progressed, I began to understand just why this facial has a rep as the creme de la creme of skincare treatments. The tension I’d been withholding gradually released, and by the time my 90 minutes was up, I had entered a state of nirvana. The best bit? After the moisturizing mask was applied, the therapist used Payot’s glass balls to massage the product into my skin and “reawaken” my face’s “energy centers”.

Afterwards my skin was dewy, plump, soft to touch, and had renewed hydration levels. Even my usually unperceptive boyfriend noticed how glowy I looked.

2. The Day Spa by Chuan at The Langham, Sydney

The facial: Ultimate Pro Youth Sea Creation Facial

It doesn’t get more luxe than The Langham, and after a treatment at this first-class establishment, I left feeling like a new woman. The décor is opulent, the staff are phenomenal and the Ultimate Pro Youth Sea Creation facial is criminally decadent.

The two-hour pampering session didn’t feel long enough; every moment was pure bliss. The facial itself included extracts from green algae, sea silk and pearl proteins, which helped to restore my skin’s structure. As a result, I left with a more radiant complexion, and much firmer, smoother-looking skin.

3. Espavita, Ultimo

The facial: EmerginC Signature Radiance Facial

After rushing through the busy streets of Ultimo, this place was a welcome retreat; as soon as I swung open the door of Espavita, an overwhelming sense of calm washed over me. As I was taken through to the softly lit treatment area, I could actually feel my stress and ever-present anxiety floating away.

The strike of a Tibetan gong indicated the start and end of my treatment, the spa’s popular EmerginC Facial. Since I was still a newbie, I received a delicate fruit peel rather than a full chemical peel, and along with traditional remedies, I was also treated to a facial massage and hypervitalizer mask. All the products used were made of natural ingredients, so I was exposed to a delicious array of fruity aromas, though the highlight for me was the bonus neck and shoulder massage. I left blissed out, de-stressed and positively dewy-looking.

4. The Paddington Beauty Room, Paddington

The facial: La Prairie Caviar Lifting and Firming Treatment

Next up on my list was a La Prairie Caviar Lifting and Firming Treatment at The Paddington Beauty Room. La Prairie is a luxury European brand known for its powerful anti-ageing abilities, and, since my skepticism was now long gone, I was keen to see the impact this would have on my complexion.

The facial is a complete extravagance, but it’s worth every penny. My therapist was a La Prairie specialist, and, as they have such an extensive range of products, she was able to match a specific line to my skin’s condition. After the hour-long experience, my skin felt toned and illuminated, almost as if I’d returned to my former teen self.

5. Endota Spa, Crows Nest

The facial: Endota 60 Minute Organic Facial

My experience at Endota began with a skin and stress consultation, in which I lay under a blue light to see what was happening under the surface of my skin. The results were then collated to create a unique organic facial tailored to tackle my faces’s specific problem areas.

To ensure I was comfortable and help relieve any stress prior to the facial, I was wrapped in a warm cocoon where I quickly entered a world of pure relaxation. The facial highlight was the beautiful aroma of rosehip oil, which was applied to protect my skin’s natural barrier. Afterwards, I was provided with a detailed document illustrating the routine I should adopt to keep my skin looking as happy and healthy as it looked the moment I left the treatment room, and it was finally official: I was a facial convert.
