Rainy days don’t necessarily have to be miserable. In fact, there are plenty of indoor activities you can do that are fun, entertaining and even productive. To help you embrace the wet weather next time it settles in, we’ve compiled a list of 5 of the best ways to bring some sunshine, so to speak, into your day.
There’s nothing more satisfying than cooking on a rainy day, so use the wet weather as an excuse to get creative in the kitchen and try out a new recipe. There are thousands freely available online, or better yet, why not pull out a family classic? Not only will the heat from the oven or stove-top warm your apartment, the smell of freshly baked goods wafting from the kitchen will be amazing.
Watch a movie
A movie and a rainy day go hand in hand. Download the latest rom com or thriller, curl up with a warm, fuzzy blanket and turn your lounge room into a movie lair! To get the full cinematic experience – without having to leave your home, of course – whip up some homemade popcorn or make yourself a creamy hot chocolate with marshmallows. Who said staying in couldn’t be fun?
Working out doesn’t have to be reserved for the outdoors or even for the gym. You can get just as good of a workout, if not better, with the help of an exercise video. If you don’t have any exercise DVD’s on hand, pull up a routine on YouTube. There are hundreds of workouts to try with multiple variations, including pilates, yoga, HIIT and aerobics.
Stimulate your mind and let your imagination run free by delving into in a new book. Check out the New York Times’ Best Sellers book list for top suggestions, or browse through the library of your Kobo or Kindle. For those of you who aren’t into fiction, why not try reading a new age novel such as The Secret or The Power of Now – it will have you feeling and thinking positive in no time!
Often we’re so busy with this or that that we neglect to make time for ourselves. So next time the wet weather settles in for the day, make the most of your time indoors by showing yourself some love. Soak in a nice hot bath, create a DIY hair or face mask or give yourself that much needed pedicure. Not only will you feel refreshed and relaxed, but your hair, nails and skin will thank you for it later.
