Wish you could feel less stressed and more balanced in your life? It doesn’t take an expensive yoga retreat or weekly massages to get there, just take these 5 simple ideas as inspiration.

1. Turn your technology off

If you counted how many times a day you checked your phone, watched TV and used your computer, you’d wonder how you got anything done. Many successful business people set rules for themselves on how much technology they consume each day. For example, set a rule that you don’t use any technology after 9pm, or you only check emails in the morning, 10 minutes at lunch, and just before you leave work.

2. Just say no!

It’s simple: start saying no more often, and feel the pressure melt away. Just ask yourself: is anything that important, like that coffee date you set with an old friend that you really don’t have time for but feel bad cancelling, or that after-work meeting someone pressured you into? Once you feel the power of no, there’s no turning back.

3. Practise daily meditation

Dont’ dismiss the idea of daily meditation because you think you can’t fit it into your schedule. Meditation can be as simple as 5 minutes of stillness before you go to bed, or listening to a meditation podcast on the bus heading into work. Or try a simple yoga move of lying on the floor with your bottom against the wall, place your legs up against the wall, and breathe deeply for 10 minutes. Daily meditation no matter how you do it is vital for your mental health.

4. Make YOU time a priority

Doesn’t that sound good? Maybe your happy place is enjoying a hot cuppa while flicking through a magazine or listening to your favourite band while in the shower – whatever it is, make YOU time a priority and relish that amazing feeling!

5. Aim for a quality night’s sleep

Good health – both mental and physical – stems from a quality night’s sleep. That means 8 hours of peaceful sleep, which leaves you feeling well rested but full of energy when you wake up. Go to sleep earlier, turn your bedroom a sanctuary, dont’t use technology in bed (no late night Facebook checking!) – these are all key to getting a great night’s sleep.
