Newsflash! Every woman has cellulite – young women, thin women, even models! Here’s how to minimise cellulite without surgery – a must-read for any woman who dreads wearing shorts!
1. Watch what you eat
“Cellulite is a breakdown of the underlying girdle of collagen in the thighs,” says Marcia Cross, founder of Bliss, “which then allows over-sized fat cells to poke through more readily, creating a bulging, orange-peel look.”
Exercise and diet reduce the size of the fat cells and drinking lots of water will make the collagen stay supple. Make sure you eat lots of water-rich foods and good oils, like fresh fruit, vegetables and fish. Pilates and yoga are particularly great for lengthening and stretching, disguising the parts of the body that attract cellulite the most.
2. Look for specific spa treatments
Treat yourself to a lymphatic drainage massage, which not only drains the body of cellulite-causing toxins and increases circulation, but is also super relaxing.
3. In-home treatments are easier than you think
Get yourself a dry body brush and enjoy a twice-weekly massage over the affected area. Start by massaging from the ankles up the waist, massaging in a gentle circular action. Don’t scrub too hard as that can tear delicate skin tissue and cause scarring.
4. Keep hydrated
Make water and tea your drinks of choice. They flush the toxins away and keep your skin soft and supple, fighting fat cells from sticking together to cause that cottage cheese effect. Make a batch of unsweetened ice tea and load up with lemon and orange slices for a delicious drink anytime.
5. Fake it!
A healthy tan is the easiest way to fake flawless skin. Choose a professional spray tan or buff on the fake tan at home. We love St Tropez tanning products for the most natural, glowing tan.
