A world premiere in the Square tonight. The movie Nine is a musical about Federico Fellini, in his 1960 movie La Dolce Vita, one of the characters in that film is a news photographer named Paparazzo. And tonight the photography pen was packed to overflowing with more than fifty celebrity photographers who are known by one and all nowadays as paparazzi thanks to Federico. I headed down to the Square at seven twenty and was number four to arrive. With many layers to keep the icy chill away from my bones I settled down for the eleven hour wait. I hooked up with a couple of regulars to keep the spot so we could each slip away for when natured called. Occasional rain made conditions even less enjoyable throughout the day too. It is December after all. The action started around six forty five after the traditional red carpet was spray glued into place. First up was director Rob Marshall who happily signed most of the fanline. Next was the excellent Daniel Day-Lewis who also signed along most of the fanline. The big draw tonight was the ladies though (see Part 2). Nicole, Penelope, Kate and Judy all looked gorgeous though they must have been very cold in gowns not designed for a freezing night. Nicoles hubby Keith Urban even found time to sign for fans. The fifty or more paps had a field day with stars individually and even more fun when Rob, Daniel, Nicole, Judy, Kate and Penelope all returned to pose once more before we all got moved out by security to end a lovely evening.
