Despite all our best efforts to look after our skin by eating well and using the best skincare we can afford, we can only do so much. That’s where makeup can really help to make our skin look our best. Here are our favourite new makeup products that specifically target anti-ageing concerns:
Mirenesse 24HR Anti-Ageing 3-in-1 Skin Perfector
This innovative foundation doesn’t just provide sublime medium coverage, but also contains a line smoothing moisturiser, pore refining primer and SPF 15. While I’m quite happy with my skincare routine, I love the idea of an all-in-one product, especially when I’m on the move. After a week of wearing this foundation everyday, my skin looked airbrushed throughout the whole day and even fine lines on the forehead and eyes have softened up.
It’s also great for lovers of natural beauty products as it doesn’t contain parabens, sulphates, mineral oil or alcohol.
ModelCo Lip Plumper Hydra Lip Plumper
While our face stays moisturised throughout the day, the skin around the mouth dries out quickly as we constantly eat, talk and lick our lips causing those fine lines to deepen. Over time our lips also get smaller. So I love a product that offers an alternative to lip injections (trout pout, anyone? Didn’t think so). This clear gloss hydrates from within to soften lines and fill out lips, and contains a stack of natural ingredients like avocado and evening promise oil, plus hyaluronic acid whichhas been described by doctors as “the key to the fountain of youth.” I like to wear it on its own as it has a great super shine finish.
Divina Argan Gold Primer
So forget that this organic primer contains 24K gold flakes that make your skin glow, or that the texture is so silky that it glides over the skin and hides pores in a flash. It’s the luscious argan oil that this primer is jam packed with, a miracle oil that contains massive anti-ageing properties. I almost want to wear it to bed it feels that good, and with such impressive results. My skin looks like I’ve just had a facial after swiping a 5 cent size drop over my face and neck. Plus it contains no petrochemicals, artificial oils, colours or preservatives so I know I’m doing my skin a world of good.
Anti Ageing Makeup Tips
It’s not enough to just slap makeup on, but knowing these tips and tricks from makeup artists can definitely take the years off.
* Celebrity makeup artist Bobbi Brown says eyes give away age more than any other feature. Brush concealer or a nude eyeshadow over the entire eyelid area, to open up the eyes and create a fresh, wide-eyed base.
*Apply concealer under the eyes only where there is discolouration, not over the whole under eye area. Take a fine concealer brush and paint just over the dark lines and any purple/red skin, then pat gently to melt the concealer into the skin.
*Have your eyelashes tinted blue black to define your eyes, and never wear mascara on the bottom lashes. All mascaras flake slightly and create dark shadows under the eyes.
*If your eyebrows are not even, use a fine cream brow liner and fill in the gaps. Carefully draw in an arch two-thirds of the way over your eyes to create a perfect frame for your eyes.
*Use lighter colours on the lips to make your mouth look younger. Dark colours make the lips smaller and the colour bleeds into those fine lines. A dab of lip balm over lipstick gives the lips a dewy, fresh look.
*Always apply bronzer or blusher, to give shape to the face and create upward lines. Find the apples of your cheeks and dab a brighter colour than you’re normally used to using, like a hot pink or coral. Cream or gel blushes are even better as they create a dewy finish as opposed to powder that settles flat on the skin.
* Avoid shimmery makeup, as it draws attention to fine lines.
