Restaurant of the week: Globe, VIC

Off for a spot of shopping on Melbourne's most famous designer strip, Chapel Street? Stop by this hidden cafe gem and don't forget to try the cakes!

For 18 years, Globe has long been one of Chapel Street’s trademark cafés but late last year it received a makeover thanks to new owners Ben Buxton and his wife Olivia.

Now much more than a café, Globe has spacious and airy function rooms at the top of the stairs and a new chef in Daryl Morris.

The menu rotates on a regular basis but the food is contemporary Australian with a European twist. Current Globe signature dishes include confit duck and white bean jaffle, grilled calamari and green paw-paw salad, braised beef cheek and herbed gnocchi.

The Globe tradition of amazing cakes lives on, but Daryl has shrunk them all down to a ‘mini-me’ size which is just perfect for those of us who like something sweet on the lips and hips!

To add to the cafe's flair the walls are now adorned with artwork from artists such as Brenda Croft, Andrew Brown, David Griggs, Bill Henson, James Rosetsky, Sangeeta Sandrasega and Simon Strong.
