Westfield stylist Josie McManus shares her favourite autumn fashion steals (all under $100!), plus some tips on wearing colour and how to layer without looking frumpy!
1. What’s your favourite trend for autumn?
Mixing textures and prints together – it’s such a fun trend and really gives you the opportunity to be individual and eclectic. Try mixing faux fur with leather and lace or throw in some sequins for evening. I also love leopard print with florals and polka dots.
2. What are your best fashion steals for under $100?
With this season being all about textures and prints, I can’t go past a coloured felt fedora like this one from Rubi Shoes which is a steal at only $19.95!
Polka dots are also big this Autumn/Winter, and this shirt from Dotti (RRP $59.95) is not only trendy, but versatile. Wear it with slim pants and flats during the day, then glam it up at night by adding sky high heels and a bright lippy.
Every girl needs a faux fur stole to stay warm when the mercury drops, and this version from Portmans not only comes in an on-trend jewel tone, but at under $50 it’s a bargain!
3. It’s easy to wear head-to-toe black in the cooler months. How do you like to inject colour into an autumn wardrobe?
I am in love with all the gorgeous colours we’re seeing this season, from luxurious jewel tones to deep muted purples and reds and dusty pinks and oranges – there is something to suit everyone! With so many great accessories on offer, from scarves to hats and colourful belts it’s easy to refresh your existing winter wardrobe. Novo Shoes and Rubi Shoes have some great colour combinations in their ranges.
4. What are some great accessories to dress up an everyday outfit?
Statement jewellery can really take a plain outfit and transform it completely. Try a statement necklace over a plain shift dress or an elaborate cuff with a sleeveless shirt and pants. Faux fur scarves and colourful felt hats also add a new dimension to your everyday outfits. Collette Accessories and Rubi Shoes have a great range of accessories to finish your look.
5. How do you layer without looking frumpy?
It’s important to understand your body shape and use layering to flatter and create balance in your shape. For example pear shapes should add layers to their upper body with scarves, vests, and hats to balance out their heavier lower body while rectangle shapes can create a curvy silhouette with chunky draped knits that tie in at the waist or with belted capes.
