Just like a chocolate milkshake, only baked! A moist and fluffy cupcake flavoured with a hint of malt, topped with a cloud-like frosting – bake this weekend for an indulgent treat.


1 1/4 cup plain flour

1/3 cup cocoa powder

1/3 cup caster sugar

1/4 cup packed brown sugar

1 tsp baking soda

Pinch salt

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1 cup milk or buttermilk

1/4 cup malt powder (if you can’t find, crush 1/2 cup of Malteasers)

1 egg

12 whole Malteasers

Chocolate malt frosting

1/2 cup unsalted butter at room temperature

3 Tbs cocoa powder

2 Tbs malt powder

2-3 Tbs milk

2 cups icing sugar


1. For the cupcakes, preheat oven to 175C. Prepare a 12-cupcake pan with cupcake liners.

2. Mix all the ingredients in a mixer until smooth and free of lumps.

3. Bake for 25 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool on a rack. Once cool, top with frosting.

4. For the frosting, combine all ingrediens in a mixer and blend until smooth and fluffy, about 4-5 minutes. Frost the cooled cupcakes, and top with a Malteaser and straw.
