lemon water, detox, vitamin c, womens health

We’ve all heard about the health benefits from drinking warm water with lemon, and how it can kickstart your metabolism especially when consumed first thing in the morning. Lemons are citrus fruits which are extremely rich in vitamin C and work two ways by cleaning the body from the inside out, and giving a healthy glow to skin and overall complexion. But what else can it do?

Natural diuretic

Mixing lukewarm water with a few drops of lemon juice helps to flush out toxins which have been lurking in the body overnight. Perfect to drink an hour before eating breakfast, the lemon helps the digestive system to easily break down food for the rest of the day.

Vitamins and minerals

Lemons are a natural source of vitamin C which will help the body fight against infection, especially during the winter months when it’s more likely to get sick. Just a few drops of natural lemon juice contains pectin fibre which specifically targets the colon and will help anyone suffering from irregular or inconsistent bowel movements.

Reduces inflammation

When consumed on a regular basis, lemon has the power to reduce acidity in the body especially the amount of uric acid which is found in joints. This helps to fight against some of the main causes of pain and inflammation which many people suffer with age.

Accelerates weight loss

Did you know that pectin fibre which we mentioned earlier, is also the main ingredient to help you lose weight? It specifically targets hunger cravings, and will make you feel fuller for longer throughout the day. Add a few drops of lemon juice in your water at any time of the day to fight off incoming cravings.

Balances pH levels

Although lemons are an acidic fruit, once metabolised the citric acid does not create acidity in the body, which means that they are a perfectly natural alkaline. Drinking warm water with lemon regularly helps to remove any harmful acidity which has made it’s way into the body.

Relieves tooth pain

Warm water with lemon can help to relieve the symptoms of gingivitis and some mild forms of toothaches. Although lemons by nature are very acidic, it is always best to brush your teeth before preparing this drink since it can erode tooth enamel over time.

Fights against viral infections

Next time your throat is sore and tender, prepare warm lemon water before your breakfast to fight off any viral infections which may flare up. The lemon juice will also work to boost your immune system, and help to minimise the infection altogether.
