Best Sunscreens For Your Skin Type

We now know that wearing a good sunscreen is the best thing you can do to fight the signs of ageing. But there are so many sunscreens on the market – where do you find the right one for your skin type? We’ve slip slop and slapped to find you the best sunscreen for the summer.

Normal Skin – Cancer Council Mineral SPF30+ Sunscreen

The Cancer Council have put all their know about sun protection into their range of affordable sunscreens, and we love this zinc-based, low irritant cream that protects against UVA and UVB radiation with a strong SPF. It’s also paraben-free and doesn’t contain nanoparticles. Aloe vera, vitamin E and coconut oil moisturise and nourish the skin.

RRP: $11.95 (110ml)

Dry Skin – Invisible Zinc Environmental Skin Protector

We all remember the summers of our younger days with our faces embarrassingly striped in zinc but now you can get that same protection in a daily sunscreen. It contains Zinc Oxide but melts without trace into the skin – so it really is invisible zinc. The patented formula forms an invisible film on your skin to defend against sun and environmental damage.

RRP: $24.95 (30ml)

Sensitive Skin – Hamilton Sensitive SPF30+ Sunscreen Lotion and Cream

Hamilton is a wonderful brand for cheap and cheerful sunscreens and the Sensitive Skin range is amazing for all skin types, but especially for those who get irritated by the chemicals found in most suncare products. Hamilton Sensitive has the lowest concentration of preservatives of all their sunscreen products, doesn’t clog pores, is free of chemical absorbers and has no fragrance. It’s also 4 hours water resistant.

RRP: $9.65 (75g)

Super Sensitive Skin – Hamilton Toddler SPF30+ Sunscreen Lotion

It might sound unconventional using a child’s sunscreen but when SheSaid reader Maggie said that the only sunscreen she can use on her super sensitive skin is Hamilton Toddler SPF30+ Sunscreen Lotion, I was keen to try it. This is a gentle, low allergy formula which contains minimal active ingredients while still packing a punch with the SPF. My skin felt very comfortable wearing it. Makes a great all-rounder – good for the kids and good for you.

RRP: $10.95 (125ml)

Combination Skin – Banana Boat Faces Oil-Free SPF30+

We all want to be sensible in the sun…but we also don’t want to look greasy and slimy! This popular light lotion is an improved oil-free formula which glides on to the skin and can be worn under makeup for a matte-free finish. Make sure you rub it on to the neck as well as it’s one of the most obvious parts of the body to give away our age.

RRP: $9.99 (100g)

Skin With Anti-Ageing Concerns – Derma Intensive+ Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Day Cream

You’ve already slipped on serums, eyecreams, primers…who’s got the time for more product? At least you can combine your sunscreen and moisturiser with this new range from Coles. Not only is it a lovely day cream but it contains Coenzyme Q10, a super antioxidant to help skin repair and renew itself, as well as grapeseed oil to soothe and nourish and silk proteins to improve the skin’s elasticity. Best of all? It’s only $4.99! Bargain wonder cream, indeed!
