“Police request the community respect the privacy of the young people involved.”

Two 12 year-old boys have been charged after allegedly raping a six year-old girl in a school toilet block in North Sydney, Australia.

The incident reportedly happened a total of two times during school hours in the month of August, and the young girl reported the incidents to the school after the second assault, when her parents were notified.

The Child Abuse Squad has since been notified by the Department of Education, who are currently undertaking a massive investigation into the crimes.

The boys, who have not been identified for protective reasons, were arrested on Tuesday and charged with multiple counts of assault. One boy was charged with four counts of aggravated sexual assault and two counts of sexual intercourse with a child under 10. The second boy was charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault and sexual intercourse with a child under 10.

A statement released by police said it was a delicate investigation and that, ‘parents and carers of students at the school are in the process of being notified, and police request the community respect the privacy of the young people involved.’ Support is being made available at the school.

Both of the boys have been suspended from school and have since been released on bail. They will appear in Australian children’s court in late September and October.
