The number of dead victims is currently unknown.
It’s the kind of thing nightmares are made of. This morning, a 911 call was placed, reporting an active shooter in the area of Orange Show Road and South Waterman Avenue in San Bernardino.
Then the shocking police reports began to flow in. The sheriff’s department estimated up to three heavily armed assailants possibly wearing body armor had shot at between 10 to 20 people, leaving several injured and an unconfirmed number dead.
“I know we do have some fatalities, but I don’t know the numbers,” Lt. Richard Lawhead of the San Bernardino police told KNBC.
At least one of the suspected assailants is believed to be wearing tactical gear.
Police have cordoned off the area and are currently attempting to secure the building where the shooting remains underway.
FBI and SWAT teams are now on the scene, attempting to bring the siege to an end. Firefighters have also set up a triage area near the Inland Regional Center on South Waterman Avenue to treat the wounded and help others into waiting ambulances and pickup trucks.
President Obama has been briefed in on the incident by Homeland Security and has requested updates on the situation, acording to a White House official.
Hillary Clinton has also weighed in on the unfolding tragedy via Twitter.
“I refuse to accept this as normal. We must take action to stop gun violence now.”
The siege comes just days after gunman John Dear stormed a Planned Parenthood facility in Colorado Springs, killing three people during a five hour siege.
