Career Profile: the business of beauty (con’t)

What has been the highlight of your career so far?
I think it is still to come! There have been great times in every role that I have done ? in my banking days, I loved being privy to the working of so many inspiring businesses and to playing an integral role in their expansion, in my early days in Communications I loved influencing outcomes (although found the negativity of the business media disappointing), and the move into self employment has been a highlight because of the sense of personal empowerment. At the moment I am loving being able to employ people in a creative environment making candles with great integrity, and creating a work environment that people love coming to.

What is the best advice anyone gave you about business?
Two things ? it is the differences in people that ultimately make for a ?functional? business and enjoy the journey. I am often so focused on the future and what else needs to be done, that I forget to appreciate the individual moments of every day. I wouldn?t say I?ve mastered this one yet, but I am really looking forward to when I do!!!

What advice would you give others aspiring to be like you?
Plan carefully, take educated risks and trust your intuition.

What would you never do again in business?
Put all my eggs in one basket.

What makes you laugh?
So many things ? generally my friends. But I love laughing and find humour in a lot of situations. My 18 month old nephew is a constant source of delight and laughter? he is already an amazing personality.

What makes you cry?
See above ? so many things! I live with a very open heart and tend to be very empathetic. I am just as likely to cry when someone I am close to is upset as for anything going on in my own life. My last big cry was watching a movie called The Notebook. Highly recommended. There is nothing that I love more than laughing until I cry!

What beauty product can’t you live without?
Gloss and mascara ? that?s about it in my makeup routine. I love Lancome Juicy tubes.

Where do you hope to be in five years time?
My main goal is just to be five years wiser. I would love Queen B candles to be touching peoples souls all over the world, and I am aiming to create a national profile and fundraising initiative for depression and anxiety. Stay tuned.
