have you seen this story on Today Tonight last week

Ash Mackinnon would rather give away his home than let the banks take it. This courageous father of two is raffling off his beloved Byron Bay home for $100 a ticket, in a bid to raise $500,000 and pay out his late wifes cancer debts. Debts that he racked up getting his wife critical cancer treatment overseas, treatment that is not available in Australia – The CyberKnife.

here is a wealth of information:

The response has been overwhelming. The warmth of the Australian (and overseas as people from UK, Sth America, USA, Nepal etc) have all responded so favourably.
I have had a blessed life and it continues. Thanks for the kind thoughts

This has created massive responses, I looked at Cyberknife a while ago and got hardly any info, now there is so much. Its a shame this family have to lose their house to bring this to the Gov't attention but I must admire him for his dedication.
If anyone knows someone who could bail this family out of the predicament (or perhaps theres a bank with scruples !!!!) lets do it

This competition closes in about a week and it looks like the family will lose their home. I am sad by this news.
The good news is the forming of a foundation to help cancer patients get the treatment we deserve to have in Australia. A number of hospitals are interested.
Lets hope Ash and his family get a decent break in the future.

I just clicked on this iste and it finishes this weekend. However, even though this family looked destined to lose their home to the banks, the father si still campaigning to help others get Cyberknife, either here or overseas, to avoid what he has gone through. Even a book is on the horizon. Best of luck to the family. I am glad I have not had to go through anything such as this, its a quarter of his life caught up fighting this disgusting disease let alone banks and governments. I dont think I'd be strong enough
Well done

Well this raffle has finished. We didnt sell quite enough but some good has come out of it. The media want to do follow ups on our story, The Prime Minister is now getting involved and a book is on the cards.
The cancer treatment, Cyberknife, gained a lot of exposure and now has about 60 information sites for people to access. Actually while the raffle was running a number of Australians ventured overseas for their treatment with Cyberknife and we are now trying to help a couple of kids in precarious situations get this treatment overseas.
We wish to formalise our efforts and work with various supporters who have come forward thru this campaign to start a registered foundation to get this treatment to Australia. If anyone has experience doing this your input would be welcomed.
Thanks for all the support. About 7000 people have joined our various endeavours and we are making a difference.

Ash i dont know if this will help but contact the McGuinessMcDermott Foundation in Adelaide....these two guys-exfootballers/dads decided to start this foundation to help sick children in our state via the ADELADE CHILDRENS HOSPITAL,and now known as the WOMEN'S AND CHILDRENS HOSPITAL.....over many years with fundraising they have made it possible to have CT scanners then MRI scanners in the hospital as well as upgrade different wards with state of the art vital equipment......these guys started from the ground up and may know of people to contact or help u with information, leads and their experience.....kids get cancer too ....maybe an alliance could be forged in getting cyberknife in australia for the benefit of adults and children with respective hospital networks....all the best Ash....you are a hero

I have gone down a different track now. I am writing a book on our experiences before, during and after my wifes cancer, as it has been suggested many times.Proceeds of sales will go to buying a Cyberknife myself and donating it to an Australian hospital. Any help as far as publishing, editing, promotion would be helpful. I am also wanting to set up a foundation to co ordinate the purchase of the Cyberknife, anyone with any expertise in this area let me know.

We have a couple of Cyberknife activities planned for 2011.
1st is Ash's book. Hopefully out in the new yr. Proceeds will go to purchasing Australias 1st Cyberknife cancer treatment which he will donate to an aussie hospital. Only needs $6 million!!!!
He has even got a team of US doctors who have volunteered to come and train Australian staff in Cyberknifes operation.
2nd is the 1st Cyberknife ball. A gala event that has run for several years in the UK to raise funds for installation of Cyberknife. The Uk didnt have Cyberknife a few years ago and now they have 3 hospitals offering it.
Between the book and the ball and foundation donations we will have this lifesaving treatment soon.

Thanks for posting this update. Have been busy. Met with a publisher this week and she has given me deadlines....
The book looks like being out early next yr. Working on cover design. Will be working with a foundation who also wish to get CYberknife to Australia. So the book, a Charity ball and other fundraisers as well as working directly with hospitals should see cancer care in Australia jump quickly into the 21st century. Thanks for all the support. My son and I are now on the central coast NSW as we had to leave Byron due to the financial strain but looking forward with great excitement and expectation.
