One of the most common make-up misconceptions is that a natural look only really works in the day. Truth is, a neutral and simple look can work just as well when you need to dress up and look a little fancy. You just need to know the clever little ways to enhance your features, like these four super easy ways…
1. Illuminate your skin
While a natural glow works wonderfully for any daytime look, you can definitely up the ante in the radiance and luminosity department for an evening or nighttime look. Notice how Chrissy Teigan has illuminated her cheekbones, forehead and chin? Too much for day-to-day activities, but spot on for a more formal affair.
Hot tip: Dust an illuminating or highlighting powder, like Mary Kay Highlight Powder, over your cheekbones, chin, brow bones and even décolletage for a radiant finish. A light dusting will do for a delicate and natural finish, while a few layers will help give you that extra red-carpet intensity.
2. Define your brows
Never underestimate the power of well-defined and perfectly groomed brows. Just look at how brilliantly it balances out Sarah Hyland’s au naturale beauty look and complements her winged liner and luscious lashes. The trick for a taking this look from day to night is to fill in your brows that little bit extra to make them look a touch darker and more defined.
Hot tip: Brows looking a little sparse? Try a brow mousse. blinc Eyebrow Mousse helps tint your natural hair while filling in those gaps with a water-resistant colour. Gently comb your brows with the mascara-like brush to apply and rest easy knowing that the formulation is holding your brows in place.
3. A glossy lip
Beyonce’s make-up looks perfectly acceptable for a special occasion, right? If you look carefully, you’ll notice she hasn’t done anything extra special or over-the-top – she’s just finished off her look with a high-shine lipgloss. The finish helps to add an element of glitz to your look without you having to do much at all.
Hot tip: No one likes the feeling of dry lips, so look for a lip colour that’ll offer the shine of a lipgloss and the comfort of a lip balm. L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Extraordinaire in Nude Vibrato will give your lips that barely-there colour with maximum shine and comfort.
4. A smoky eye
The reason so many people steer clear of a natural make-up look when they’re getting dolled up is because they feel like it’s too simple; it’s not quite jazzy enough for a special event. But what many people don’t realise is that it’s the perfect opportunity to add some shimmer and smoke to their eye look like Kate Mara’s done here. Pair dark, defined eyes and lashings of mascara with a metallic eyeshadow for a standout eye that’ll add some glamour to your look.
Hot tip: Use a light shimmery shade like Revlon Colorstay ShadowLinks in Oyster, on the inner corners of your eyes as this will help brighten your eyes. Oh, and if you have small eyes, don’t line both your top and bottom waterline – just stick to the top.
