Drew Barrymore may have had a turbulent upbringing but she says she now knows the true meaning of family surrounded by her husband, daughter and in-laws.
“I won the in-laws jackpot. It might be the best karma for having one of the wackiest upbringings,” Barrymore said in the latest issue of Magazine C.
Barrymore, 38, married art dealer Will Kopelman last June, four months before giving birth daughter Olive. “I never had dinner with my mom or dad, let alone together. It’s amazing to think that in life you can completely have a do-over,” she revealed.
Her own childhood was so kooky she says her family never even had a dining room, and so she didn’t find the need to have one in her new home with Kopelman.
‘I told him, “Dining rooms are stupid. They shouldn’t exist. When was the last time we had a dinner party?'”
“Family dinners would never have occurred to me, and that’s what I want most. Now it’s my life mission to figure out this room.”
It’s not the first time the actress has gushed about her new family life. Early this year she gushed to Ellen DeGeneres: “He has this incredible family. I’m as in love with his family as I am with him, which is an extraordinary kind of gift. You never take that for granted.”
Besides relishing her role as a mother, Barrymore has been busy launching her own wine label (called – what else? – Barrymore) and makeup line, Flower.
