When the hit TV series Sons of Anarchy graced the small screen 7 yeas ago, it caused a bit of controversy in the US and later in Australia. Guns blazed, motorbikes roared and cuts flapped as the bad boys of Charming made their mark. No other TV series had delved inside the life of motorcycle gang members or their families. Seriously, who thought it would be so successful?

Since then, inopportune violence has become a common endurance and you might be wondering what’s been the big attraction? Well, apart from the obvious – sex, drugs and organised crime – the series actually centered around love. Yes, love of all things! Probably not what most men would admit to but for female viewers it has clearly been a draw card. Not to mention the sizzling hot “Jax Teller” aka Charlie Hunnam, who just happened to be the star of the series!

Anyway, back to what the series was actually about. There was love of men for their women and vice-a-versa, parents for their precious children, family for each other and the kinship shared by the brotherhood of men who don the cut and live on their bikes. Plus, it emphasised the struggle to live “the life” and manage to go home to the family after a hard days “work”. It’s probably as far from the norm as most people can imagine living, but for the 1 per centers it portrayed the Sons of Anarchy gave viewers a sneak peek inside a world which most of us would rather not participate in.

That didn’t deter fans who rapidly became addicted and lined up to purchase SoA paraphernalia, expressing just how enormous the momentous following had become. Aussie fans have been no exception, wearing Sons clothing and buying Sons items for their homes and man caves, while holding out for each new season with bated breathe.

Despite growing increasingly graphic, fans have gotten accustomed to their ritual of late-evening viewing and absorbing their weekly fix of Sons, for 7 long years. Of course, some Aussie fans jump the queue, downloading each and every episode off the internet only hours after its release in the US late Tuesday nights.

It appears though, all this has come to a screeching halt. Fans in the US have just witnessed the mega popular series finale and Aussie fans won’t be too far behind. One by one, the original members of Sons of Anarchy have been not-so-subtly written out of the script leaving very few cast members left standing. Without being a spoiler for Aussie fans, let’s just say the plot has been moving in this direction for some time.

The only good news for viewers is that they won’t need to wait too long to get another glimpse of Charlie Hunnam (aka Jackson “Jax” Teller), Katey Sagal (aka Gemma Teller) or some of the other popular cast members. It seems staring in the Sons of Anarchy has done wonders for their acting careers and many have been spotted making the switch from the small screen to movie theatres around the globe.

So, we say a final fond farewell to one of TV’s much loved series and late night viewing rituals. Fans will need to adapt themselves to the void left by the absence of the Sons of Anarchy and wait patiently for the next season of Game of Thrones!
