Smell like a cool summer’s breeze or a bouquet of lilies with these gorgeous Limited Edition summer fragrances. By Olivia Hambrett.
Summer in the perfume world means one thing; limited editions. Perfume houses select their best selling scents, work a little pizzazz into the potion and presto, you have a Summer Limited Edition. Of course, they all have a couple of things in common. Most will focus on citrus or aquatic notes and most will be a lighter, fresher version of their original. And they will all have a dazzling bottle that will seal the desirous deal.
There are currently loads out there weighing down the perfume counters, including Davidoff’s Cool Water Summer 2009, DKNY’s Be Delicious Blossom, Jennifer Lopez’s Sunkissed Glow and Calvin Klein’s Eternity Summer 2009. And lest we forget one of the stalwarts of the Summer Limited Editions Crew, Tommy Hilfiger’s Tommy Girl Summer.
However we can’t go through them all, or we’d be here forever, so below are five 2009 limited editions for you to get your paws on and refresh your senses with.
Nina Ricci Love 2009
This super sweet scent has had but one, very important, change made to its formula. Instead of the red apple note in the original, Love 2009 sports the crispness of a Granny Smith apple note. It’s a little tweak, but a safe one. The sweetness of praline and prettiness of peony remain, simply with a zestier twist.
Stella Sheer 2009, Stella McCartney
Stella McCartney has reinterpretations of her blockbuster signature scent, Stella, down to a fine art. This year’s edition keeps it lovely and light with green apple and lemon (a departure from earlier Sheer editions) but maintains the delicate rose and warm amber notes that the fragrance is best known for.
Burberry Summer 2009
Fruity top notes, a floral heart and the classic musk, cedar and sandalwood base, Burberry Summer keeps things simple and stylish. Red currant, litchi and mandarin provide an opening burst of fruit, whilst freesia jasmine and rose send us on an olfactory summer picnic.
CK One Summer 2009
It’s not summer without a CK One edition coming out, in the customary bright bottle with the customary citrus fizz. This year they’ve gone a little different with mint and cucumber thrown into the mix, keeping things very chilled. Aquatic, green apple and lotus notes drift about on a base that includes rum cocktail and driftwood. You may be tempted to drink it, step away from the bottle.
Paul Smith Rose Summer Edition
The original Paul Smith Rose is a stunning homage to the most popular flower in perfumery, so the arrival of a summer edition (available January 2010) is rather thrilling. Notes of violet, green tea and watermelon add a sunny spring to the delicate rose and iris heart and the base keeps it simple with amber, musk and sandalwood.
