Up in the Air

After getting Oscar attention for JUNO, director Jason Reitman turns to this adaptation of Walter Kirn’s comic novel. Academy Award-winner George Clooney stars as Ryan Bingham, a businessman on the verge of reaching five million frequent flyer miles when his company decides to cut back on travel.

But his goal isn’t the only thing just out of reach: he now won’t be able to see a fellow frequent traveller (actor Vera Farmiga) who has caught his eye. Starring: George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick, Melanie Lynskey

Shesaid Says:

This is really average story with a great cast. Ryan Bingham is a likeable guy trying to navigate his way through life doing a pretty tough job but with compassion and class which George Clooney carries off easily. Anna Kendrick is brilliant as his unwanted apprentice and Vera Farmiga is good even if a little distant as his also travelling romantic liason partner.

This movie could have dug so much deeper into the emotions of it’s characters instead of taking the easy, bland almost boring way out of this movie. Watching George Clooney is never hard to do and most of us could watch him mow the lawns for all we care about his acting, but in this movie he did a great job of portraying the emotionally detached businessman. He does still manage to have fun and gets the audience easily laughing along with him. Not a top 5 movie of the year but easy to watch on dvd or stuck on a plane!
