Manly Escape – Girls Day out

Is your ideal day out with your girlfriends all about food, wine, dining and shopping? Mine is! So it was an easy assignment to be a guest of Manly Tourism. Our day started with a private session with Duncan Peake the owner of Power Living, the home of Power Yoga Australia. Duncan and his crew have been evangilising about Power Yoga since 2004 and now have 2 studios in Sydney, the newly opened Manly one, plus the Neutral Bay one. As a novice yoga person I was a little sceptical as Yoga for me has always been a little too slow and boring, I know call me crazy but I just never really got in to it.

Power Yoga on the other hand is my new addiction, think of all the good things you know about Yoga and then add in a really warm room (about 26-28 degrees) and a calming, very knowlegble teacher. Power Yoga is great for active people that want to really work hard, sweat and feel full of endorphins at the end. Duncan’s classes have a somewhat cult following on the Northern Beaches and I now know why. Ex-army, strong, tattooed and muscely is not my idea of a Yoga teacher but Duncan is all that and more, possessing this inner calm and strength that radiates out of him as he takes the class. Without sounding like a star struck teenager, Power Yoga is worth coming to Manly for and if you get to take one of Duncan’s classes you will know what I am talking about…

Dining OutAfter our action packed morning we were whisked down to China Beach, (sister restaurant of China Doll) one of the newest additions to Manly’s growing restaurant scene that now includes Garfish, Manly Wine Bar, Hugos, Mortal & Pestle, El Toro Loco, and the award winning Manly Pavilion restaurant. Beachside dining has had an amazing turnaround in the past few years and Manly now enjoys a reputation for not only one of the best beaches in Sydney but also some of the best new bars and restaurants. At China Beach you can enjoy all the Modern Asian cuisine from the co-owner and chef Mai Busayarat, ex Jimmy Liks and China Doll, while enjoying the extensive wine list. Like many Manly haunts, you will be welcomed at China Beach for a casual meal after a day at the beach or dressed up for a more formal occasion by the seaside.

Drink Anyone Needing to sample all Manly had to offer provided us with the chance to visit a few of the new bars in Manly, I know tough gig but someone has to do it! If you find yourself in Manly and feel the need for a little bar hopping with your girlie mates, then Manly has a multitude of bars to choose from. Try Miss Marleys tequila bar, 4 Pines Micro-Brewery, plus my own personal favourite, The Pony Room – go for the $10 all you can eat Pizza on a Sunday night, and check out their jugs of Sangria! Perfect way to end a weekend – word of warning though – be careful or you might it like it so much you want to move to Manly!
