I have been wearing glasses for ten years and my biggest challenge was driving without sunglasses, in the car and on the golf course. For the last month I have had the privilege of trialing the new 30 day continuous wear contact lenses by CIBA Vision.
Like a lot of people I have phobia of anything going near my eyes, let alone deliberately poking my eye with my index finger. Luckily, my optometrist, Laura Reale of Lifestyle Optical, was both informative and patient with my first consultation. After 30 minutes I was able to place and retrieve my new contacts from both eyes, after this I was hooked.
The contact lenses are aimed for continuous day and night wear. They are made of a material known as silicone hydrogel, which is a permeable material that ensure the eye can breath and remain comfortable for much longer than tradition soft contacts.
Despite it being meant for day and night wear, I did find them to be distracting by the end of the day. According to my optometrist, I was suffering from a syndrome called ?lens awareness? where you can actually feel the lenses touching the inside of the eyelid. This does pass after a few days, and the sensation is typical with all contact lenses.
Overall I was astonished by the natural vision of the lenses; every object within my peripheral vision is now pin sharp! I felt my true test was playing golf and not losing sight of the ball at dawn when the sun can be at its brightest and sunglasses are a must! At the end of my game I found that I was not as tired as I normally am, I account this to being able to wear sunglasses with my contacts.
After one week of wearing the contacts I hardly noticed them. My best advice to anyone wearing glasses is to give these contacts try. The hydrating formula made them very easy to adjust to. They are aesthetically pleasing, your peripheral vision is greater and you will not sit on them and break them as I have done to my glasses numerous times in the past!
