How Julia Roberts Stays Fit

She has one of the most enviable bodies in Hollywood, so how does Larry Crowne actress and mum-of-three Julia Roberts stay fit? Her fitness guru shares the star’s exercise secrets.


42-year-old Roberts is the first to admit that good genes have played a part in achieving her long, lean body. “It’s a combination of genetics and loving support.”

But Kathy Kaehler, who trains Roberts, admits she also has to work out.

Julia’s routine

Roberts has one hour sessions, four times a week, starting with 20 minutes of step aerobics and 40 minutes of lunges, crunches, push-ups and planks.

She’s also a fan of swimming. Kaehler says: “swimming and water exercises are great ways to build up endurance and stay fit.”

Kaehler recommends swimming as a great exercise for increasing endurance. Try this exercise devised by Kaehler next time you’re in the pool:

1. Swim a few lazy laps in the pool to warm up (5-10 minutes).

2. Put on a flotation belt and head to the deep end.

3. Run at an easy pace for 1 minute, then a moderate pace for 1.5 minutes, followed by a fast pace for 60 seconds.

4. Repeat 5 times (or more if you want a stronger exercise).

Kaehler’s tips

Kaehler likes to mix up Roberts’ routine to keep her interested, especially after the Oscar-winner admitted she doesn’t really like to work out.
