Most women can recall their first flirtation with makeup. A sickly sweet lip gloss that you wore to death one summer? A very trendy (and expensive) bright green mascara – what was I thinking? Or perhaps call-girl red lipstick on a way to young face… We’ve all been there. So, tell us about the first item of makeup you ever bought…

Alex: “It was a duo eye shadow that was electric blue and bright pink!”

Dee: “A revolting candy pink lipstick that I thought was gorgeous at the time.”

Leanne: “Blue eyeshadow with glitter – it was a fashion disaster but at the time my friends and I thought we looked very cool.”

Kylie: “Opal coloured lipstick I totally loved it it was purple and shiny I was 16 and thought I was sooo cool…”

Loredana: “My grown-up cousin gave me mascara on my 13th birthday. I loved it and went overboard! I wore it to school and was given detention.”

Karen: “Red peel-off nail polish. Very sophisticated – aged 7.”

Zoe: “It was a Strawberry Shortcake set, with a cute little pink lipstick, which smelled divine, and lovely bubble bath. I was about 5 at the time!”

Jacqui: “Being a nail biter, I bought a packet of Krazy Nails in bright red and thought they looked so hot!”

Briellen: “A lip smackers lip balm in strawberry and i was in year five and I thought that I was the luckiest girl ever and I applied so much that it ran out within weeks!”

Cynthia: “Sparkly gold mascara – not a good look!”

Sarah: “It was a kiwi-fruit lip balm from The Body Shop, about 20 years ago! I still remember it. I loved it so much!! It was fruity and shiny and SO girlie!”

Kathryn: “I bought some eye shadow in a delightful shade of purple to go with my black nail polish and fluoro purple hair band. I thought I was SO cool and hip! – Got to love the Eighties!”
