Sources have revealed the 39 year-old has “been dealing with these issues for a long time”.

After abruptly canceling his tour on the back of a bizarre on-stage rant, Kanye West was taken to an LA hospital facility last week, reportedly suffering from mental health-related issues due to exhaustion and dehydration.

However, new reports claim the controversial rapper had in fact been struggling with acute mental health issues for some time. Sources close to the West family told TMZ this week the star allegedly believes people, specifically his doctors, are “out to get him” and refused to let medical staff have any physical contact with him on entry to hospital. West has been described as ‘profoundly depressed and paranoid’ as he continues to recover from the reported breakdown.

The rapper was admitted to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center on Monday after authorities were called to his trainer Harley Pasternak’s home, where the 39 year-old was reportedly behaving erratically and subsequently ‘handcuffed to a gurney during the transport to the hospital,’ according to TMZ.

West sparked concerns when he interrupted his performance to make an erratic speech, airing his grievances on everything from the election to Beyonce, in the middle of a concert in Sacramento last Saturday, later announcing he was canceling the remaining shows in his Saint Pablo tour.

Fellow celebrities including comic actor Marlon Wayans, Ellen show producer Andy Lassner, and hip-hop producer Patrick Denard Douthit have since taken to social media to join fans in expressing their support for the troubled star, reinforcing the importance of de-stigmatizing mental health issues.

Meanwhile, the rapper’s celebrity wife, Kim Kardashian, who has remained largely out of the public eye since she was attacked in Paris last month, has remained by her husband’s side in hospital and is reportedly sleeping beside him in his room at night, with a source close to the family revealing to Us that “seeing Kanye like this is scary for her”.

West was originally expected to leave hospital to be discharged into the care of his personal doctor this week, provided hospital staff are confident he’s fit to continue his recovery independently, but his current mental health status has raised concerns he may not yet be ready to leave supervised care.
