“He is my closest friend in the world and I couldn’t imagine not being there to support him.”
Kate Winslet just gave us major friendship envy by revealing her Titanic co-star and best friend Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the main reasons she will attend this year’s Oscars.
Even though they haven’t even taken place yet, this year’s Academy Awards have already been more controversial than ever due to many actors and actresses expressing their disappointment at the lack of ethnic diversity among the nominated.
When asked whether she will join fellow actors, such as Will Smith and Tyrese Gibson, in boycotting the award show, Winslet gave this heart-warming answer:
“To be honest with you it has been such an extraordinary year for women, I’d feel like I was letting my side down if I didn’t go. And also I feel very strongly that it may possibly be Leo’s year, and he is my closest friend in the world and I just couldn’t imagine not being there to support him. And I think those are reasons enough really to show my face.”
Aaaww, we hear you, Kate!
We wouldn’t want to miss Leo win his first and very overdue Oscar, either. The actor is nominated for his leading role in The Revenant, based on the harrowing real-life story of Hugh Glass (played by DiCaprio), who is left for dead by his hunting party after being mauled by a grizzly bear, then must make the near-impossible quest to return to camp and exact revenge on those who betrayed him. (It is an EPIC film, see the trailer and read our review here.)
Meanwhile, DiCaprio’s self-confessed BFFL, Winslet, could take home her second Oscar for her supporting role in another film based on real events, Steve Jobs.
There is literally nothing that would make us happier than seeing both of them win and have a Jack and Rose moment on stage on February 28. Now, excuse us while we go watch Titanic to prepare mentally.
