Sure you could buy expensive lotions and potions to get rid of wrinkles, dull skin and blackheads. Or you could raid your kitchen and try these natural beauty treatments (tried-and-tested by the SheSaid team!)


For a spot treatment, you can use pureed mint leaves (a dab of minty toothpaste will also work), lemon juice, or apple cider vinegar (do not rinse). You can also use these liquids as a natural toner (then rinse with water).

Dark spots

Remember using lemon juice to lighten your hair? Lemon juice is a fantastic natural lightening treatment for dark spots too. Or mix with yoghurt for a refreshing face mask (leave on 5-10 minutes, rinse well, pat dry).

Avocado is a brilliant treatment for wrinkles. Mash 1/2-1 ripe avocado and place over cleansed skin and relax for 5 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. Great as an eye treatment too.

Clogged pores

Mash papaya or blend chunks of papaya and use the puree to massage the skin with for 2 minutes. Papaya is full of enzymes that help break down the outer layer of skin, unclogging pores and removing dead skin cells.

Dull skin

Mix coffee grounds, oatmeal, walnut meal, sugar, or salt with either a little water or milk to create an amazing and all-natural scrub that will leave your skin smooth and soft.


Use a 20/80 mix of pure caster oil and extra virgin olive oil and massage a teaspoon of the oil mixture into the skin for 5 minutes. Take your time and really massage into the pores, then lay a hot towel over your face and allow the steam to clear out the toxins from your pores. When the towel is cool, rinse the towel in hot water, squeeze out and lay over the face again, repeating the process 4-5 times until your skin feels clean of oil.

Follow with your moisturiser or use 1-2 drops of the same oil mixture and pat lightly over the skin.
