There comes a point when you don’t want to whack just anything on your skin, but you actually start to care about what products you use on your face and body. We want healthy vitamins and organic oils, not scary chemicals we can’t even pronounce.

Natural skincare is booming as women seek products good for their skin, even good for the environment. We look at some of our favourite natural skincare products.

A’kin and Al’chemy

Most supermarket shampoos and conditioners contain parabens and sulphates, which dry the scalp. They also create lather, which gives the feel of deep cleaning. Unfortunately this isn’t the case, and you need more product to relieve dry scalps and brittle hair.

Al’chemy Unscented Very Gentle Shampoo and Conditioner have been a favourite for years. It gently cleanses and conditions and leaves my delicate hair feeling healthy and strong. I also love the refreshing scent of the Lemongrass Shampoo and Conditioner.

Shampoo and Conditioner RRP $14.50 each.

Will Evans, founder and technical director of The Purist Company (the company behind A’kin and Al’chemy) says, “Natural ingredients are composed of numerous substances which work together in synergy. Even minor components in plant extracts can significantly boost their effectiveness. Synthetic ingredients on the other hand, have a limited action and are commonly contaminated with impurities.

Burt’s Bees

We’ve loved Burt’s Bees from day one (everyone in the office here carries a lip balm in their handbag, car, bedside table…). So we were thrilled to hear about their latest range, Naturally Ageless, packed with antioxidant rich pomegranate.

The Naturally Ageless Line Smoothing Eye Creme has really impressed. The cream melts into the undereye area, softening fine lines and circles. Most importantly it doesn’t feel greasy, unlike many anti-ageing products.

Naturally Ageing Line Smoothing Eye Creme RRP $44.95.

You shouldn’t have to give up your natural skincare routine when you travel, so we fell in love with GAIA’s handy travel pack, containing five 50ml skin and body products.

GAIA products contain moisturising organic oils and active botanical extracts, and are free from soap, sulphates and petrochemicals.

5x50ml travel pack, RRP $22.95.

Bod Ecology

Bod Ecology is one of the newest Australian natural beauty companies, using only natural ingredients. The packaging is elegant and we’re particularly smitten with the Body Scrub, which comtains organic brown rice to naturally boost circulation and leave the skin glowing.

Body Scrub RRP $15.95.
