“Sunday afternoon is the new Saturday night!”

Australia has never seen an event for kids and parents like this. The Boston Globe calls them “The 24 Hour Potty People”. The LA Times calls it “playtime” for grown-ups and The Sunday Times in London lists it as one of the 20 coolest things to do with your kids. It’s Baby Loves Disco. And it launches in Sydney on Sunday August 23.

What is Baby Loves Disco?

Baby Loves Disco is an afternoon dance party featuring real music, spun and mixed by real DJs, blending classic disco tunes from the 70s, 80s and beyond aimed at hip parents and their kids (aged 6 months to 7 years). Yes, it’s in a real (thoroughly baby-proofed) nightclub. Yes, it’s real music.

Think bubble machines, baskets of scarves and egg-shakers, a chill-out room (with tents, books and puzzles), nappy changing stations, a full spread of healthy snacks. Oh and dancing. Lots of dancing.

Who started it?

Tash Henry and Alex Carlton are the host mums for Baby Loves Disco Australia. Between them, they have three kids and two day jobs in PR and journalism. The events began in the US when mum Heather Monteith wanted to recapture a little of her pre-kid life, while having fun with her family. The idea caught on, and it’s become a massive, worldwide success (events are held all over the US, UK, Dubai, Japan and beyond).

When is it?

Baby Loves Disco will host its launch event at Slide Cabaret Bar and Club in Sydney on Sunday August 23 from 1pm to 4pm, with a second event scheduled for Sunday 27 September from 1pm to 4pm. More events will be announced in the future around the country. Tickets are $17 for all walking humans (crawlers are free) and can be purchased via Moshtix www.moshtix.com.au.
