Old posers on the Block
In the ?Why would you?? story of the week, two men who posed as former members of the boy band New Kids on the Block (NKOTB) have been sent to jail. In the US state of Nevada, the unique duo have pleaded guilty to fraud charges and begun serving sentences at separate federal prisons. In October last year, one of the pair claimed his wallet was stolen and identified himself as NKOTB member Jonathan Knight, providing Las Vegas police with Knight’s Social Security number and date of birth. He then used the report to obtain a Social Security card and Nevada driver’s license in Knight’s name and a credit card he used it to make purchases. The other genius admitted to the same scheme involving the identities of NKOTB member Daniel Wood and Kevin Richardson, a member of another all-boy band, the Backstreet Boys. A judge sentenced the pair to 18 months in prison for one and six months in prison for the other and ordered them to pay nearly $250,000 in restitution. Why would you want to pose as pretty boys from a has-been boy band?
Tori Spelling engaged
Tori Spelling, whose Beverly Hills 90210 character got married at the end of the show’s 10-year run, is tying the knot in real life. On-screen virgin Spelling, 30, and actor-writer Charlie Shanian, 34, plan to wed in the middle of next year, says her publicist, Cece Yorke. The couple met on stage last year in the Los Angeles production of the romantic comedy Maybe, Baby It’s You, which Shanian co-wrote. Let?s hope Tori doesn?t follow in the footsteps of fellow 90210 stars and their brief but tumultuous marriages a la fallen TV witch, Shannon Doherty!
Tiger birdies his Swede in Africa
Golfing supremo Tiger Woods has popped the question to his Swedish girlfriend of two years, Eli Nordegren, whilst on safari in Africa. Ashley Cocks, a spokesman for the Shamwari Game Reserve in South Africa reportedly said the proposal came during a sunset walk on Tuesday. Apparently when the couple departed on Friday aboard a private jet, Nordegren was packing some serious extra baggage in the shape of a “huge diamond on her finger.” Par for the course when you agree to marry one of the richest sportsmen in the world, you?d think!
