As women, we are always looking for new and effective ways to care for our skin – for less. From simple tips such as removing your makeup before bed, or even using an eye cream (regardless of your age), there are a number of tricks we should all incorporate into our skincare regime. Incorporate one or all of the following hacks for smoother, and de-stressed skin.
1. Reduce redness
Did you know that drinking a cold glass of water helps to reduce redness in the face? Drink one glass of water the next time your skin is feeling flushed, and notice the results!
2. Eat your greens
Green vegetables such as spinach and kale are packed with antioxidants which help to reduce blemishes and overall breakouts on the surface of the skin. Enjoy a side of greens with your lunch and dinner.
3. Lazy self tanner
Don’t have time for a spray tan, or run out of your usual self-tanner? Don’t stress! Simply mix a few drops of liquid bronzer or illuminator to your usual moisturiser and apply onto clean skin.
The best time to moisturize your body (and face) is immediately after stepping out of the shower. Massage the solution directly onto damp skin – this will hydrate it much quicker than if you’re working with dry skin.
5. Cracked lips
Suffer from chronic cracked lips? Apply a touch of honey to remove excess skin, and leave your lips feeling soft and nourished. Also works just as well on cold sores.
6. Clean your phone
Ever wondered why your breakouts are only concentrated to one side of your face? This may be caused by a dirty mobile phone. Think about it – they accumulate lots of makeup and dirt from the entire day, and they are then pressed onto the face for prolonged periods of time. Clean your screen once a week with a cloth and mild antibacterial solution.
7. Prevent crows feet
Wear a pair of sunglasses every time you step out into the sun, since this will prevent any signs of ageing around the eyes. Search for sunnies which offer UV protection (but are also fashionable!).
8. Stretch marks
Reduce the appearance of stretch marks by slathering on that sunscreen. Not only will this minimise scarring, but also protect your skin from future sun damage.
9. Catch those Zzzs
Not getting enough sleep can irritate the skin by causing breakouts, inflammation and an overall dull complexion. Plan your evening ahead, and log off all devices at least an hour before you decide to doze off.
10. Brighten skin
Dip a washcloth in a tiny amount of soy milk, and place over the face for 5-10 minutes. This will help to brighten the appearance of dull skin, and also decrease the effects of wrinkles and skin damage.
11. Change your pillowcase
To avoid those nasty blemishes, make sure to change your pillowcases on a regular basis. This could be the reason for those breakouts, since hair product, leftover makeup, serums and creams come into contact with your pillow every single night.
12. Use a face towel
Don’t use the same towel for your face and body. This will only promote the spread of bacteria, and cause breakouts on the face and neck.
13. Avoid smoking
Smoking can lead to premature ageing, and speed up the process of defined lines and wrinkles. Even second hand smoke contributes to skin sagging, and is extremely harmful.
14. Exfoliate with oatmeal
Add one teaspoon of organic oatmeal to your usual cleanser, and apply onto the face. Wash off with lukewarm water, and notice the appearance of smoother and more defined skin.
15. Don’t pop!
Step back and leave those pimples alone. Touching the infected area will only introduce more bacteria into the pores, which could lead to scarring.
