Stressed? So Is Gwyneth Paltrow
Feeling stressed in your day-to-day life? So is Gwyneth Paltrow, who opens up about feeling pressure and anger in her newsletter GOOP.
“I have never been very good at handling stress (though a bit of meditation helps), and I wanted some very practical ways of reducing it that I could use during the course of my day.”
She says her strategies don’t include “90 minute yoga class, or flying to a hippie style silent retreat (I’ve actually done one – don’t ask), just simple things that we all have access to.”
She offers suggestions from friends, including Oliver Bros, who recommends breathing techniques:
“Breathing is a beautiful and pure way of bringing yourself back into the moment, to not only push the play button again, but to refocus your energy. Have you been breathing while you’ve been reading this? No? How about giving it a quick try?”
Do breathing techniques help you copy with stress?
Paltrow has previously talked about the pressures of work-life balance and advises working mothers to:
* Schedule your time, using a calendar and to-do lists
* Having groceries home delivered
* Put your kids’ clothes/uniforms out the night before as well as preparing their school bags (consent forms, after-school activity bags etc) to avoid the morning rush
* Return calls on the way back from the school run
And in true Hollywood form, Paltrow also suggests women “get a weekly blow out (blow dry).”
