Take a break this Valentine’s Day
We?d all love to be jetting off to some exotic destination this Valentine?s Day wouldn?t we? Lying on a deckchair overlooking crystal clear waters while the man in our life spoils us with cocktails, fancy dinners out and luxurious nights of passionate love. Unfortunately time and budget usually forbids us to take such a time out at this time of year. We?ve just had Christmas, we?ve run out of annual leave and it?s all too hard to organise.
How about a romantic break in your own hometown? There are often pockets in and around town that you?ve never visited or have only driven past. My partner and I decided it was time to explore our Sydney and all it had to offer, so went online to find our ideal destination.
We used the website HotelClub.com.au, which has recently re-launched their service. We knew we didn?t want to be right in the CBD but we wanted to be reasonably close. We navigated through the site until we found a room available with a price to suit. Before long, we?d made a reservation at the Novotel Brighton Beach in the beautiful Brighton le Sands.
The hotel and suburb we chose turned out to be ideal for our needs. Our suite was large, with a king bed, spa bath and a beautiful view of Botany Bay. First up though was the impressive pool we had heard about. Novotel Brighton Beach has an indoor and outdoor pool as well as a tennis court, gymnasium, spa, sauna, day spa, outdoor BBQ area and a gaming lounge. Although not particularly romantic, sliding down their waterslide was a memorable experience! Turns out we weren?t so adult after all?
After all that sliding and splashing, we realised we were famished so decided to get showered and ready for dinner. There are plenty of lovely restaurants in Novotel Brighton Beach, but we decided to sample some of the local cuisine. Brighton-le-sands is famous for their Greek food and we soon found out why. The haloumi was fresh and succulent, the dolmades were heaven and we gobbled down the gorgeous olives, fresh bread and gourmet dips. Accompanied by a bottle of crisp white wine, we felt we were in heaven.
A romantic stroll along picturesque Botany Bay followed as we observed the beauty of the surroundings before retiring to our room. Forethought had ensured we had the obligatory strawberries to accompany our champagne and we were soon sitting happily in our spa bath, enjoying a chat and a massage. Before long, we?d retired to the boudoir to enjoy the luxurious comfort of a king bed.
Rested, relaxed and feeling a world away from home, we ate a delicious breakfast in the Novotel dining room, and then wandered off to pack up and check out. Knowing that we didn?t have a long drive or flight ahead of us made us much more eager to simply enjoy the surroundings before we meandered homewards. Home is where the heart is, they say? We certainly found it.
