Carbs are essential for fueling the body (and they’re delicious!), but many of us eat way too many carbs, so maybe it’s time to consider a low-carb diet.

Your goal is to not just weight loss, but to be healthy while shedding that weight. If you can make a low-carb diet something you want to do, rather than something you have to do, chances are you’ll be successful.

Here’s how to transition to low carbs the healthy way.

Start small

No one said go crazy on a zero carb, zero tolerance diet. Make small changes, like eating only half the bread on sandwiches or switching to whole wheat pasta. Elect low carb options as often as you can.

Don’t focus on what you can’t eat

Instead, focus on finding new ways to eat delicious food! You have more options and more recipes than you think!

Plan ahead

Remove all the temptations from your fridge and pantry. Look for yummy low carb recipes, and low carb diet-friendly foods.

Don’t deprive yourself

One of the biggest side effects with depriving yourself is rebound eating or binging. Instead, reward yourself once a week with your favourite meal or food.

Switch your carb ratio around

Most of us eat a big portion of protein and fill the rest of the plate up with carbs. Think steak and mash, or chicken and pasta. Fill your plate with less carbs (and maybe less protein) and fill in the gaps with more vegetables. It’s healthier for you and keep you full for longer.
