Toni Pearen’s Top Tips To Keep Your Family Cold-Free This Winter

Hand washing is one of the most important steps you and your family can take to help prevent the spread of germs. Wash your hands thoroughly with an antibacterial hand wash such as Dettol No Touch Handwash – It automatically senses hands to dispense the right amount of soap and kills 99.9% germs.

Make hand washing fun for your little ones by teaching them a song to sing whilst they wash their hands. This is a good way to get them into the habit of washing their hands for long enough. Two rounds of ‘twinkle twinkle little star’ is a reasonable amount of time to spend on proper hand-washing!

Drink plenty of water, eat a healthy diet, get enough exercise and practice healthy hygiene habits to help increase your body’s chances of fighting off colds and flu. Also aim for a consistent 6 to 8 hours of sleep every night if you can.

When you sneeze or cough, either cover your mouth with a tissue and throw the tissue away, or sneeze or cough into the crease of your elbow. Sneezing or coughing directly into your hand may leave behind germs that are then easily transmissible. Coughing, sneezing or even talking can spread germs over 3 meters away and they can survive for up to 2 hours on your skin, so it is important to wash your hands with an antibacterial hand wash like Dettol Healthy Touch Moisture Hand Wash.

Make sure all surfaces are completely clean with a surface spray like Dettol Surface Cleanser or before and after you cook to avoid the spread of bacteria and germs.

Use a hand sanitiser such as Dettol Instant Hand Sanitiser after catching public transport or using ATMs and shopping trolleys. It’s great for when you’re not near soap and water!

The Dettol Everyday Health Index revealed that on average people take 3.6 sick days off per year. If you do feel like you are coming down with a cold or flu or your children seem unwell, it’s best to stay at home until you or they feel better. It’s important to break the cycle.
