Australian Colour Technician of the Year Matt Clements of The Assembly Hair shares his top hair colour trends for winter – plus his tips for maintaining your hot new hair colour!
Hair colour is always interesting and this season is no different! Contrasting warm and cool tones used side by side, accents of muted colours such as soft powder pinks and lilacs with grey and whites is still very much an on-trend look.
Customers are looking to the likes of celebrities such as Nicole Richie and Kelly Osborne for hair direction and their use of colour tones to make a bold statement.
The 60’s influence is also still being felt in hair as well as on catwalks, and that’s resulting in colour blocking large sections and panels of contrasting shades to create beautiful finishes.
Hair colour maintenance
Regardless of which colour trend you want to follow, one thing I can’t stress enough is to consult with a professional before you undertake a major colour change. A lot of people don’t realise how much hair colour can change your whole appearance.
Choosing a hair colour that is complimentary to your skin tone is paramount to achieving a successful and long lasting result. Big colour changes and corrective colour needs in-depth consultation before you begin to make sure the change you’re after is realistic, not only about the condition of your hair but also the investment and maintenance you are prepared to make.
As well as refreshing your colour at the salon, it’s so important to invest in properly prescribed products that suit your hair needs – if you want beautiful hair you must take care of it!
Matt was named Australian Colour Technician of the Year for the third consecutive year at this week’s Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo Awards, which is especially great news considering his salon suffered devastating loss during last year’s floods.
