Think soft drinks are ok as an occasional or everyday drink? We believe everything in moderation, but when we did our research, we knew it was time to give up. Here’s 7 reasons why.

1. Phosphoric acid

Weakens bons and rots teeth.

2. Excessive artificial sweeteners

There’s an average of 39g of sugar in each can of soft drink. These artificial sweeteners make you crave more soft drink (why many of us ‘need’ our daily fix of soft drink).

3. Formaldehyde

When you drink diet soft drinks, you are digesting aspartame, which breaks down into two amino acids, and methanol equals formic acid plus formaldehyde.

4. High fructose corn syrup

A concentrated form of sugar derived from corn. It increases body fat, cholesterol and trigylcerides. It also makes you hungry.

5. Potassium benzoate

A preservative that can be broken down to benzene in your body. Keep your soft drinks in the sun and benzene become a carcinogen.

6. Food dyes

Impairs brain function, stimulates hyperactive behaviour, causes difficulty focusing and promotes a lack of impulse control.

7. Carmel colour

Made from the chemical caramel, it is purely cosmetic, does not add flavour yet is tainted with carcinogens.
