From creamy blondes to vibrant copper red and rich chocolate browns, winter is the perfect season to try a new hair colour. Two-time Australian Colour Technician of the Year Matt Clements shares his advice on which hues to choose.

Redheads

For the lovers of a fiery mane, Matt favours shades of titan coppers, rusty hues and scarlet reds. Think Christina Hendricks, Julia
Roberts and for the brave, Florence Welch. Matt advises that for reds, it’s about “balancing intensity with depth and richness.”

Blondes

If you’ve been considering a lighter change, then for blondes Matt sees a movement to “ice shades that embrace cool, crisp and clean tones”. Use Claudia Schiffer as your hair
inspiration. And for those feeling adventurous, Matt recommends making “a return to the
toneless hues of white blonde”. If you’d prefer not to take your look to Nordic extremes, he
advises opting for “warmer shades of soft marigolds and honey hues.”

Brunettes

Take a walk on the dark side with Matt’s forecast for deep, rich hues. Use the locks of Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox as a guide, with Matt recommending “hues of rich chocolate, deep burnt caramels and inky petrol blacks.”
