10 Best Weight Loss Tips

Did you know that 31% of Australian dieters re-gained lost weight within six months, and 81% put the weight back on within two years. So it’s important to void fad diets and learns how to lose weight in a realistic way. .SureSlim’s Medical Consultant Dr Robert Vial shares these best-ever weightloss tips to help you achieve your weightloss goals.

1. Set a clear weight loss goal.

This will keep you on the right track and will help you to stay motivated as you get closer to reaching your ideal weight. By having realistic goals in place you can focus on exactly how much weight you still need to lose and celebrate your achievements as you get closer!

2. Eat three balanced meals a day and don’t snack.

Research shows that people who continually eat during the day will experience a stronger drive to eat because their insulin levels are constantly raised. By having three balanced meals a day with the right proportion of low GI carbohydrates, protein and good fats – you should be satiated enough to make it to your next meal time without any cravings.

3. Drink two litres of water a day.

You should be drinking 8 glasses of water a day especially when you’re trying to lose weight. You will also find that during weight loss you body has more waste to get rid of and water helps flush the waste out.

4. Eat dinner at least two hours before going to bed.

It takes about 2 hours for a meal to be broken down by the stomach and move into the digestive tract. If you’re prone to late night dinners – change your habits!

5. Reduce you caffeine intake.

Your daily dose of coffee acts as a diuretic, much like alcohol, which can increase dehydration. Deyhdration can be perceived as hunger, causing you to seek out energy-dense snacks.

6. Eat an apple every day!

Research has shown that eating apples can significantly lower many of our blood fats. The insoluble fibre found in apples also provides bulk, making you feel fuller and aids digestion by holding water, which helps food to move quickly through the digestive system.

7. Stay away from fruit juice:

Whole fruit is great, but don’t mistake fruit juice for the same thing. Even a glass of 100 percent fruit juice can take four or five pieces of fruit to create! When you extract the juice of a fruit, you leave behind the fibre which helps your body digest simple sugars more slowly and stops your insulin from spiking.

8. Do not cut out food groups:

It seems every week there is a new diet promoting the banning of certain food groups. In reality, our bodies need carbohydrates, protein AND good fats in order to function properly. Yes, even when you’re losing weight.

9. Be prepared.

Like a good girl scout, don’t risk finding yourself in high risk situations without a plan. Whether it’s packing your lunch at home to ensure you’re not tempted to run out and buy a take away lunch, or eating your healthy dinner before heading to a cocktail party so you’re not tempted to eat a room-full of unhealthy canapes, being prepared makes all the difference on your weight loss journey.

10. Don’t go for the quick fix.

If a diet seems to good to be true – it probably is. There is no magical trick to weight loss. You DO have to make some sacrifices and you DO have to change your habits in order to bring about weight loss and improve your health and well being. Try to avoid thinking about your weight loss as a “diet” – something temporary that you can “give up” later. But rather, a new lifestyle and way of eating that will keep you healthy and happy for life.
