Christina Carey just shot a Ralph Lauren campaign due out early next year, has had two Italian vogue editorials recently and is the worldwide face of Shiseido. We sat down for a girly chat with the international model!
What is an average day like for you?
“Most days are different which is a nice part of my job. This year I’ve been living in New York so I can be doing any number of things, sometimes in a studio at work on a photoshoot, sometimes running around on castings, meeting up with friends, checking out new areas, going to the gym, shopping at the Farmer’s market…there’s always lots to do and see in this city!
When do you feel your most beautiful?
After a hard work-out and I take a shower my skin is always has a nice healthy glow to it.
What do you enjoy most about your modelling? And the least?
The highlights are the travel, and making friends from various cities that I’ve lived in, as well as experiencing different cultures. Something that’s a bit of a downside though is that I’m so far from Australia which makes visits home infrequent. I do miss my family a lot.
What is your opinion of reality modelling shows like “Australia’s Next Top Model?”
I’ve actually never watched it! I haven’t been living in Australia since the show started, and have never watched the US version …I actually don’t have a T.V in my apartment yet..and last year I lived in Paris so I didn’t watch any T.V then either!
What is your advice for girls wanting to get into modelling?
It’s important to research who the reputable agencies are, and arrange to meet them all before signing any contracts. It’s also really important to feel comfortable and happy with the people who’ll be representing you as agents.
What are the biggest misconceptions about the modelling industry?
A lot of people ask me if I get all of the clothes I wear on shoots or shows….we almost never get given these … they’re usually kept at Press Offices to be used on other photoshoots etc.
What has been your career highlight so far?
Working with Nick Knight when I shot the ad campaign for Shiseido Cosmetics; and recently shooting the Ad Campaign for Ralph Lauren.
You get to travel to some amazing places, where is your favourite?
I have three… Gothenburg, Berlin and Paris.
How do you stay in shape?
I really love keeping a healthy routine in life, making sure there’s always a balance. I love fresh nutritious food using seasonal fresh produce to do my cooking. I also exercise regularly… I walk everywhere, and make sure I do a few cardio and weights sessions every week on top of this.
What is your daily beauty routine?
I use a good body brush to exfoliate, natural body oil, and simple moisturising face creams that don’t contain too much perfume.
What are your goals for 2010?
To stay healthy, happy , stressing less but working hard.
My funniest high school memory is … My maths teacher decided to start calling me chris one day..but she couldn’t pronounce ‘r’ properly so it just sounded like ‘Cwis’. She called me that for the entire year, it was really funny. I never corrected her because my friends found it so hilarious every time she’d call it out.
The last thing I splurged on was … A Givenchy handbag when I was in Paris a few months ago.
Right now I am obsessed with … “Australian Summer fruit while I’m back here for Christmas.”
My can’t-live-without-it beauty product is … “Paw Paw ointment.”
At the moment I am reading … “Fiesta: The Sun also Rises by Ernest Hemingway. I’m also enjoying reading the Australian Sunday Papers again while I’m back here for the summer!”
I wish people knew I was … “Not fussy or difficult as they sometimes imagine models might be.”
I love to eat at … “Souen in New York.”
My favourite saying is … “We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make the world”- A quote from Buddah.”
If I could meet anyone in the world it would be… “I would quite like to bump into Ryan Gosling one day …”
My favourite place to hang out is … “Anywhere with good friends, and lots of sunshine.”
The biggest lesson I have learned in love is … “I feel I’ve still got a lot to learn actually!”
