It’s the end for #Brangelina.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are splitting, just over two years after finally tying the knot.
Jolie filed divorce papers on Monday, citing irreconcilable differences. She listed the date of their separation as September 15, 2016 – just four days prior to the filing.
TMZ broke the news and said that a source told them the breakup was due to Pitt’s parenting methods, as well as his penchant for smoking pot, and possibly his alcohol use. The source told TMZ that Jolie believes Pitt has an “anger problem” and was concerned for the children’s welfare, while Jolie’s entertainment lawyer, Robert Offer, said she is leaving Pitt “for the health of the family.”
However, Page Six is reporting that the divorce action comes in the wake of a private investigation that revealed Pitt has been fooling around with his latest co-star, Marion Cotillard. The Page Six source said Jolie hired a private investigator who found that in addition to the alleged affair, Pitt has been partying off the set of World War II drama Allied and is “in the throes of some insane midlife crisis.”
Pitt and Jolie have been an item since 2004 and have six children together, but famously pledged not to wed until gay marriage was legal in the US. As it turned out, they jumped the gun and married in 2014, a year before the US Supreme Court decision that made gay marriage the law of the land.
Jolie is being represented by divorce attorney Laura Wasser, who handled her divorce from actor Billy Bob Thornton in 2003. Wasser has represented a string of high-profile divorce clients, including Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears, and Johnny Depp. She is also reportedly repping Jennifer Garner and Gwen Stefani in their recent divorce filings.
The marriage was Jolie’s third and Pitt’s second. Before her marriage to Thornton, Jolie was married to Jonny Lee Miller, from 1996 to 1999. Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston for five years and left her after falling in love with Jolie on the set of the film Mr & Mrs Smith.
Many Twitter users took the chance to voice their support of Aniston in the wake of Pitt’s split and imagined her response to the news.

Many people seemed to be taken off guard by news of the split, but it just goes to show: you never can predict who will get divorced and who won’t.
Jolie is not seeking spousal support, but is asking for joint legal custody of their kids, rather than joint physical custody. Reportedly, her legal filing asks for Pitt to be granted only visitation rights, while she retains full physical custody of the children.
