Another Night Club Shooting In Florida Kills Two Teenagers

July 25, 2016

At least 19 people are injured.

Just six weeks after a gunman killed 49 people at a night club in Orlando in what turned out to be the US’s worst massacre to date, another shooting this Monday at a night club in Florida has tragically killed two teenagers and injured over a dozen people.

The shooting occurred at Club Blu, which was hosting a party for teenagers in Fort Mayers on Florida’s Gulf Coast. When the event ended just past midnight, the shooting took place in the club’s parking lot with parents and their children “dodging bullets and running, dropping between cars,” according to a witness.

The two killed have been identified to be 18 year-old basketball player Stef’An Strawder and 14 year-old Sean Archilles. At least 19 other people were taken to hospital, two with potentially life-threatening injuries.

At this point, it remains unclear who the gunman or gunmen are, with Police taking three suspects into custody, though according to Fort Mayers interim Police Chief Dennis Eads, “this was not a terrorist act.”

Reacting to questions about Club Blu’s security measures, the club released a statement on Facebook which has since been deleted, saying, ‘We tried to give the teens what we thought was a safe place to have a good time. It was not kids at the party that did this despicable act.’

‘There was nothing we could do … a car rolled up and just started shooting,’ the club’s co-owner added.

Police are currently investigating two other possibly related scenes where gunshots were fired on property, one of them only a few blocks from the club.
