Beauty Review: Chocolate Facial!
We know it makes us feel good inside but what can chocolate do for our outsides? Editor, Melissa, tests out the latest natural beauty trend.
Sweets guru Betty Crocker once said “Above all… Think Chocolate!” And she could not have been more right!
Once upon a time chocolate was seen as the devil food expounding pimples at the slightest consumption. But thanks to more scientific research into the food group over the last few years beauty experts and health experts agree – chocolate is good for you!
When ingested it releases good endorphins in the body making you feel instantly happier and the anti-oxidants in cocoa actually help your skin fight free radicals such as pollution and bacteria in the air! Did you know cocoa has double the amount of antioxidants than red wine and three times more than green tea?
So if it’s so good to eat, then what can it do when applied to you face? Editor, Melissa, found out.
SheSaid Roadtest: Chocolate Facial
I am on my way to the Marriott Hotel in Sydney to test out the latest natural beauty trend. I suffer from quite dry skin so am keen to see if the moisturising effect of the organic product is as good as I’ve heard.
I am greeted by the most lovely beauty therapist who tells me that the idea behind the Chocolate Facial is that we should not put anything on our body that we would not eat. The pores on our skin actually drawn beauty products into our body and therefore into our blood stream so anything laced with chemicals is going to put our liver under strain.
We start off with a deep cleanse followed by microdermabrasion with mother of pearl and bamboo and lymphatic drainage facial massage to boost metabolism. My therapist tells me she learnt this type of massage from Mr Clarins himself in Paris and I don’t doubt it for a second because it’s the best facial massage I have ever had!
We’re then up to the warm organic chocolate mask part. A concoction made of the highest quality cocoa butter, honey, aloe vera, oatmeal, yoghurt and vitamins is applied to my face with a brush. It feels very smooth and velvety on and smells of the most divine chocolate cake known to mankind. It is actually entirely edible but I refrain from licking my face, no matter how much I want to!
The mask is great for treating acne or breakout prone skin and is perfect for people with sensitive skin of any age because of the all natural products. It dries semi-hard and is washed off with warm water leaving my skin feeling positively glowing from the inside out. I can actually feel the moisture oozing out of my skin and it looks more plumped and healthy instantly. It also looks healthy and radiant for a good week afterwards.
I loved it and will definitely be back!
