Eyeshadow That Suits Your Eye Shape

August 26, 2014

Finding the correct eyeshadow for your eyes can often be difficult to achieve, especially if you have deep-set or droopy eyes. The first step is to identify the type of eye shape you have, then work from there to find out which colours, techniques and styles suit you the best.

Deep-set eyes

These are larger eyes which often appear to be set deeper into the skull. This mostly makes the brow-bone look more prominent than it actually is.

  • Start by lightening the inner corner of your lid with some shimmering shadow. This will give the appearance of a more pronounced eyelid, rather than deep-set into the skull.
  • Work a medium shadow above the crease of your eyes, then blend well into the brow bone.
  • When applying liquid eyeliner, keep the line extremely thin. The bigger the liner, the smaller your eye will seem.

Drooping eyes

Often hereditary or with age, eyelids become heavy and droop over the rest of the eye socket.

  • Use a primer before you apply your eyeshadow. This will keep your makeup looking fresh regardless of the weather or humidity.
  • Apply a neutral shade over the entire lid, and blend well with a fluffy brush.
  • Colour the outer corner of your eye with a darker shade, but remember to blend it well to avoid any harsh lines.
  • Use a liner in your lower lash line, but stop before the corner of your eyes. This will only bring more focus to your eyelids.

Close-set eyes

Eyes which are extremely close together – usually less than one eyeball width apart.

Beauty Tips: Eyeshadow For Your Eye Shape

  • The key is to create the illusion of space between the eyes, so avoid using darker shadows which will only make your eyes look smaller.
  • Apply a light and frosty shadow in the inner corner of your eyes, and this will easily make them look bigger.
  • Keep the rest of your makeup clean and fresh, focus on extending those lashes by lifting and plumping them. Use a mascara, or even individual falsies which would make your eyes look enormous!

Wide-set eyes

The complete opposite to close set eyes – they are usually more than one eyeball width apart.

Beauty Tips: Eyeshadow For Your Eye Shape

  • Apply darker shadows which will make your eyes seem closer together. Line your top and bottom lashes with a felt-tip or liquid eyeliner to close this large gap. Try and stay as close to the tear duct as possible.
  • Extend your eyeshadow higher into the brow line – this will shift the focus from the large space between your eyes. Follow up with lots of mascara, and falsies if you want to go for a dramatic look.
  • Don’t forget to groom your bottom lashes. Use a bottom lash mascara to lengthen and plump your lashes which will look amazing on wide set eyes.
