Get the Look: Kate Beckinsale’s Golden Globes Hair

Kate Beckinsale’s messy hair up style was one of our favourite celebrity hairstyles at the Golden Globes. The naturally loose bun is great for anyone with wavy or curly hair. If you’re a summer bride (or part of the bridal party), we think this would make a romantic wedding or formal hairstyle.

Here’s how celebrity hairstylist Sascha Breuer created the look in just a few easy steps.

1. Start by using Moroccanoil Volumizing Mouse directly on to the roots of damp hair. The mouse will help add body and hold and it’s a great way to set the style in. It’ll also make hair more pliable and easier to work with.

2. Begin blow drying the hair using a skeleton brush, and then use your fingers to create texture and additional volume. Once the hair is fully dry, separate into a horseshoe shaped section (the part between both temples & your crown area) and clip the top section away.

3. Pull the bottom section into a low, side ponytail at the nape of the neck and secure with an elastic. Then coil & wrap the tail into a messy bun.  You can even tug a few strands out to create naturally falling bits and to loosen the bun. Secure hair with bobby pins.

4. Take the hair from the top section and backcomb the roots using Moroccanoil Ionic Ceramic Round Brush to maximize the volume at the crown and create a slightly disheveled texture.

5. Secure the top section into the existing, loose bun with bobby pins.

6. Mist the hair with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Medium to add shine and long-lasting flexible hold. Spray a little product onto finger tips and work it into the single strands to help define the pieces. Secure the final look with a few more pins.

Get the Look: Sarah Hyland’s Glam Side-Swept Hairstyle

Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland rocked one of the most stunning side-swept hairstyles we’ve seen in a while on the Hunger Games: Catching Fire premiere red carpet in L.A. earlier this week. Not only an elegant formal hairstyle, this is a great choice for wedding hairstyles if you’re opting for a romantic dress and pretty makeup.

Here’s how celebrity hairstylist Ryan Richman created the look in just a few easy steps.

1. On damp hair, generously apply Living Proof Prime Style Extender to lock in your style. Blow dry hair straight, section by section.

2. Set a heavy side part to your desired side. Using a 1″ barrel curling iron, curl each section in the same direction.

3. When finished, gently brush out your curl into a uniformed wave.

4. Spray with Bumble and Bumble Spray de Mode Hairspray or your favourite hairspray for lasting hold.

5. To complete the look, use a bobby pin to secure the hair behind one ear.

Just follow these easy steps.

1. Pull hair together at the nape of the neck.

2. Twirl hair into a tight bun and tuck in the ends.

Get The Look: 1920s Waves Like Christina Hendricks’ Emmys Hair

Need wedding hair inspiration whether you’re the bride or a guest? We think these flapper-inspired, 1920s waves, like Christina Hendricks showed off at last month’s Emmys, are the perfect elegant hairstyle for medium to long hair. Simply pair with a feminine dress, antique jewellery and a vampish red lip.

We asked celebrity hairstylist Dario Cotroneo to share his how-to to recreate this gorgeous hairstyle in just 4 easy steps.

1. Section a side part from the hairline to the crown area. Then section hair at the back of head into three even sections.

2. Begin each section in the back area by backcombing the roots and spray with Thermal Image from Wella. Place the hair under the MYCURL and roll up horizontally. Starting from the mid lengths area, secure the first strap then continue rolling the MYCURL to the roots and secure the second strap. Then clamp the irons over the MYCURL for 15seconds. Repeat for the other two back sections.

3. Divide the front sections into two sections on both side of the face, roll in two Large MYCURLs on both side sections away from the face without the backcombing, spray with Thermal Image from Wella and roll a Large MYCURL into the hair horizontally from the mid lengths and secure with straps around the cheekbone area. Then clamp irons over the MYCURL for 15 seconds. Allow hair to cool down for 20 minutes.

4. After hair has cooled, remove all MYCURLs and lightly brush hair forward from the mid-lengths to ends in order to separate the curls, and then spray some shine spray for a glossy finish. To keep your style looking polished and groomed, around the face and on the top layer, spray hairspray onto a makeup brush and brush around the parting and around the face.

Elegant Formal Hair Styles for All Hair Types

You may not be walking the red carpet at a gala Hollywood premiere, but at some point, a dressy occasion will come up and you’ll have the need for formal hair styles. Whether it’s a wedding, a work event or a holiday party, you want to do something elegant and glamorous with your locks. Here are a few formal hair ideas for long, curly and short hair.

Long hair

Of today’s style icons, none has the flair of Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, when it comes to formal hair styles. This royal beauty wears her long, silky locks down on most occasions, even the most official ones. To add polish, she curls the last few inches for a look that’s polished and sophisticated.

When she does wear her hair up, the Duchess avoids getting too severe by braiding the hair on the sides, then pulling the braids back and wrapping them around a soft, low bun at the nape of her neck. This trend-setter also has been seen wearing her hair half up, half down, with a small bun at the back of her head.

Short hair

Victoria Beckham usually wears her hair in a short bob that’s longer in the front, and for red carpet occasions, she spices up her style several ways. One style involves curling strands at the crown and around her face for a softer look. Beckham has also been seen with her short hair side-parted and slicked back behind her ears.

Other short-haired sirens dress up their formal hair styles with glam accessories like headbands, barrettes, flowers and combs. Why not add a tiara for extra sparkle?

Curly hair

One totally feminine and beautiful way to dress up curly hair is to pull the front part away from your face, clip it with an ornament and let the curls fall down your back. Alternately, part it on the side and let the curls fall over your shoulder, or pin up your hair in a romantic bun like Taylor Swift.

Curly hair also works well in flowing movie star styles—think Rita Hayworth or Veronica Lake. If your curls tend to have a mind of their own, tame them a bit by wrapping around a curling iron to form loose, soft waves.
