Instructions

1. If your hair has just been freshly washed, use a lightweight cream so you don’t suffer from any flyaways. This particular formula adds a hint of shine, and is perfect if you’re getting photographed. Concentrate the product into the ends of your hair, then blow-dry backwards.

2. Comb backwards and secure the hair into a bun at the nape of your neck. If your hair is particularly thin, section it off, take small pieces of hair and wrap them over each other. This gives the illusion of added volume without the use of extensions. Once hair is done, set it in place with some hair spray.

Inspirational Boho Wedding Hairstyles

Relaxed boho hairstyles are one of the most popular ways brides choose to style their hair on the big day. Not only are these styles perfect for hair which is long and thick, but you could also add a few extensions for instant body on your wedding day.

RELATED: Top 5 Celebrity Wedding Hairstyles

We have chosen a few of our favourite hairstyles, which can inspire your own personalised boho look.

Flower crowns

Fresh flower crowns are one of the best parts of a spring-time wedding, because not only are the flowers in bloom, but you can also wear them in your hair! Keep the rest of the style simple by curling the ends and pinning the flower crown into the centre of your parting.

1

Messy side braid

If your hair is naturally big and textured, why not use this natural volume to your advantage? Plus, it gives your hair a break from all the damaging styling tools. A beautiful side braid is always on trend and you can accessorise with seasonal flowers in your hair and bouquet.

2

Knotted bun

A cute and flirty knotted bun is another fool-proof hairstyle which stays in place all day long. Perfect if the forecast for the wedding day is cold and windy, but do keep a few extra pins in your handbag, just in case.

3

Waterfall braids

Give your hair a bit of a twist with these waterfall braids, which look amazing with ombré and balayage. To create those large, flirty curls, use a clamp-less curling wand on large sections of hair.

4

Bangs and braids

If you have a thick front fringe, make it the focal point of your entire look with a classic fishtail braid. Long, voluminous falsies and a bold lip are a match made in heaven for the makeup department (and don’t forget to match your nails!).

How To Care For Sun-Kissed Locks

Many dark-haired celebrities are making a change to a lighter, sun-kissed look for the warmer weather, and one of our favourite has got to be Jessica Alba. To maintain those bright blonde locks, it’s important to use a few products and homemade tricks which will ensure that your hair never looks brassy or dry.

RELATED: How To Go From Black To Blonde Hair

Conditioner

A hydrating conditioner is essential when you’re working with bleached hair, since it adds some much needed moisture back into the hair follicle. While you’re in the shower, apply conditioner at your roots, then tie up the rest of your hair into a bun. Leave it in for 5-10 minutes and rinse with cold water for best results.

OGX Hydrating Macadamia Oil Conditioner, $17.99

Chamomile

Did you know that chamomile is a natural way lighten your hair? Fill a large bowl with lukewarm water and 4-5 bags of chamomile. Let the water infuse for a few minutes, then tip your hair into the bowl. The water should soak into your hair for about 10 minutes, then squeeze out the excess and let your hair dry in the sun.

Trim

To keep your bleach blonde ends from getting too dry and over-processed, it is important to visit the hairdresser on a regular basis. If you have a few split ends, simply wrap a lock of hair around your finger, and lightly snip off all the strays.

Brassy tones

Blonde hair can go brassy without a moments notice, so always keep a violet shampoo in your bathroom cabinet. Apply the product to your ends, leave it in for 5 minutes, and wash with cold water. It helps to cancel out any brassy or orange tones from your hair between trips to your hairdresser or colourist.

Fudge Clean Blonde Violet Toning Shampoo, $19.99

Purifying mask

If your hair is damaged from all the sea-water or treatments, simply use a homemade mask to bring it back to life. Olive oil is perfect on damaged, brittle ends and coconut oil is an amazing hair and scalp mask, which brings back instant shine.

Timeless And Romantic Wedding Up-dos

Whether it’s been your own wedding or even a close friend or family member who is getting hitched, the importance of hairstyle (amongst other things) is often a top priority.

One of the most timeless styles definitely has to be romantic up-do which requires little to no maintenance, and stays in place all day (and night) long.

Blondes

If you’re a blonde like Lauren Conrad, then this style is definitely a match made in heaven for you.

The low boho bun is secured at the nape of the neck, with hair pinned back from the front for a elegant finish. Add some cute accessories around the bun before heading off to the reception, and don’t forget some sea-salt spray to keep hair looking full and textured.

1

Brunettes

Show off your shiny brown hair with a classic undo featuring braids and curls. This is such a stunning look for girls with brown hair (especially if you’re rocking a few blonde highlights), since it photographs beautifully on camera.

Redheads

If your hair colour is anything between a strawberry blonde and Lindsay Lohan’s signature shade, then some white or pale pink flowers will create a stunning contrast.

Start on curled hair and create a wrap-around bun on the side of your head. Pin through some seasonal flowers, or something like baby breath is also amazing!

3

Short hair

Just because you have short hair, doesn’t mean you have to miss out on this trend! Take your hair into small, sectioned ringlets and remember to curl in different directions.

This will create a romantic look without requiring too much effort – plus a few flower accessories are must-have for this style.

Thick hair

Thicker hair can often be difficult to style, especially since it feels like it’s weighing down your roots. Why not try a half-up half-down hairstyle which will still look incredible without causing pain or damage to your hair follicle.

A flower garland or wreath is another way to spice up your hairstyle without going over the top.

Celebrity Hair Transformations

There is no denying that celebrities change their hair at any given moment. Unlike the rest of us, haircuts are paid for, colour is anything but from a bottle, and time is plentiful.

If you’re looking for some inspiration for your next hairdo, consider some of these drastic transformations by the celebrities you love (and others you love to hate).

Kim Kardashian

Blonde, black, balayage to now platinum, is there anything that Kim wouldn’t try on her hair? We don’t think she would be into colour, unlike her younger sister Kylie. One of the biggest changes has been Kim’s new hairstyle which she debuted at Paris Fashion Week earlier this month. Love it or hate it, either way, it definitely created some buzz.

k1k2

Nicole Richie

Who remembers the long, streaked hair that Nicole Richie was sporting during the first few seasons of The Simple Life with BFF Paris Hilton? Seems a world away from the style she has now – mainly pink and purple coloured locks.

n1n2

Ciara

Singer Ciara should be on a billboard promoting balayage – her colour is just that good! Not too brassy, not too yellow, with the perfect amount of body and bounce. A girl can dream! A far cry from the style she was known for during the earlier parts of her music career.

c1c2

Olivia Palermo

Palermo was first introduced to the silver screen through the MTV reality television show, The City, alongside Whitney Port. While she mainly sported a voluminous looking style, her colour has changed drastically over the years. The fashion world fell in love with her sharp, long-bob in 2011, and is still a major source of inspiration to this day.

op1op

Sienna Miller

Inspired by Brigitte Bardot in the 70s, Miller’s hair was mostly long and layered with a face-framing fringe. Fast forward to 2015 and she’s known for an edgier style with short, pixie hair. This isn’t the first time Sienna Miller has chopped her hair, she did it back in 2004 for biopic, Factory Girl.

sm1s2

Ashley Benson

Actress Ashley Benson debuted her chocolate brown locks in 2011, then changed to a dirty blonde colour that she has kept ever since. The colour works well with a bit of texture, which can be achieved with a spritz of sea-salt spray.

ab1ab2

Mary-Kate Olsen

One half of the Olsen twins went for a dramatic change in 2003, with Mary Kate colouring her hair strawberry blonde. Her super-long locks were styled with dry shampoo for a relaxed finish, but she soon reverted back to her natural blonde roots.

mk1mk2

Rihanna

Don’t think we forgot about Rihanna! The singer is well-known for her changing hairstyles, ever since she chopped her long locks in favour of a strong, structured bob. But who could forget the stunning balayage at last years Grammy Awards, swoon!

r1r2

Sarah Jessica Parker

Well, technically this one belongs to Carrie Bradshaw, but who could forget the dramatic transformation to chocolate brown locks once Big jumped ship?

Boho bun

Estimated time: 10 minutes

3 Complex Hairstyles Simplified

Instructions

  1. Start with day old hair which has retained some of its natural oils – this will make it so much easier to work with!
  2. Part your hair (down the centre or to the side), then start by creating a 4cm thick braid. Fasten it with a clear elastic.
  3. Take the rest of your hair, then create a few more messy braids with the ends. Secure with an elastic, then tug at each side to make them a little more ‘lived-in.’
  4. Position a mirror in front and behind you – it will make it so much easier to see what you’re doing. Then pin each section of hair into a bun. If your hair is a little on the thick side, use a clear elastic to help secure it into place. Cover the elastic with extra hair, and pin directly over it.
  5. Use a teasing comb to tug out any shorter layers, this will help to frame your face.

Long fishtail

Estimated time: 5 minutes

3 Complex Hairstyles Simplified

Instructions

  1. This is the perfect hairstyle if you’re working with slightly oily hair, or even if it’s been freshly washed. It only involves a simple fishtail braid that is easy to achieve if you know the technique.
  2. Divide hair into two equal sections, then pull a thinner strand of hair from the left side and cross it over to the right.
  3. Repeat this step again on the opposite side, then keep alternating until you have reached the end. The secret to nailing this look is to keep hair looking neat and tidy, so make sure to position a mirror behind your back.
  4. For a messier look, tug at each side of the braid.

Sophisticated side bun

Estimated time: 10 minutes

3 Complex Hairstyles Simplified

Instructions

  1. Part your hair down the side with a comb, then gather your hair to the front.
  2. Create a side bun which covers the side of your ear, and pin back the strains of hair with an elastic or bobby pins.
  3. Take any shorter layers from the front of your hair and use a curling wand for some extra volume and bounce. Once it’s cooled down, curl it once with your finger and pin it back into the bun.

5 Vintage-Inspired Bridal Hairstyles

Chignon

5 Vintage-Inspired Bridal Hairstyles

Hair comb

Accessorise a classic hairstyle with a beautiful hair comb, which can also be your ‘something old.’ Pearls, flowers and other little hair ornaments are a match made in heaven if your dress features lots of white lace.

Ringlets

Give your hairstyle a bit of a 1950s influence with ringlets. They are perfect for brides with really thick or course hair, which needs to be tamed throughout the day. Feature a few ringlets on the side of your hair and simply create a neat and tidy bun with the rest that’s leftover.

5 Vintage-Inspired Bridal Hairstyles

Tight curls

Who can resist a classic curl on their wedding day? Use a pair of hot rollers overnight if your hair finds it difficult to stay in shape. And don’t forget to use a generous amount of hairspray for extra hold.

Protective Hairstyles For Damaged Hair

Hair which has been left damaged by the elements, dye, or too many styling products often difficult to style.

Rather than walking around with a gym ponytail (you know what we’re referring to), or just a simple bun, we give you some inspiration which won’t cause any additional damage.

Slicked back

Nothing looks more classic than a slicked back hairstyle, and this is perfect for disguising any damage to your hair. Start with clean, freshly washed hair, and apply a smoothing mousse throughout. Comb the product from root to tip, then secure in a ponytail at the nape of your neck.

Plaits

Who doesn’t love a set of cute plaits? Part your hair down the middle with the help of a wide-tooth comb, and plait each hair down the side. It will help to protect your hair from the sun, rain, and wind without looking too boring.

Protective Hairstyles For Damaged Hair

Knotted bun

Take your bun to the ultimate twist by braiding your hair on one side, then creating a messy knot in the middle. This hairstyle won’t add any additional breakage to your hair, but rather, keeps it all together and out of your face. Don’t forget to use a bit of hairspray to keep it all in place!

Protective Hairstyles For Damaged Hair

Tips

  • Limit the amount of heat and styling tools you use on your hair. If you are already dealing with chemically treated hair, this won’t help to increase its overall quality. Air dry your hair whenever you can, and only use products which are natural.
  • Rinse your hair once a week with rosemary, apple cider vinegar, or even baking soda. You will immediately notice a difference in the quality of your hair, plus it’ll look and feel extra shiny!
  • You are what you eat, so remember to eat a balanced diet. Biotin is important in growing healthy hair, so add some eggs into your diet or take natural supplements.

Simple Ways To Hide Bald Patches

Whether you’re suffering from alopecia or even losing some of your hair post-pregnancy, finding bald patches is a very confronting issue that many women deal with.

Rather than covering your hair with numerous hats or beanies, we have a few handy hairstyles which will allow you to disguise those patches.

RELATED: Volume Boosting Tips For Thin Hair

Low ponytail

To conceal any bald patches on the bottom half of your head, try a simple ponytail. Use a mirror at the front and back to see what you’re doing, and carefully comb hair until the patches are concealed. You might want to use a hair gel to keep the strands in place, and avoid them moving due to wind or even rain.

Simple Ways To Hide Bald Patches

Side braid

If you want to cover up thin, hair or bald patches, then a side braid is ideal. Rather than keeping your hair looking super-slicked back, go for a messy look which makes it look thicker. Use a volumising hair mousse and scrunch up hair from root to tip, before fastening the braid with a clear elastic.

Simple Ways To Hide Bald Patches

Tight bun

Hide any bald patches by using a sock-bun in the centre of your head. Not only is the most common place where women suffer from bald patches, but it’s also quite simple to disguise. Wrap thick strands of hair around the bun, then hold it all in place with a few bobby pins.

Simple Ways To Hide Bald Patches

Cut a fringe

A side or even front fringe is another fantastic way to conceal any bald patches. Cut a wispy fringe which isn’t too thick since it can sometimes draw attention to the wrong strands of hair.

Simple Ways To Hide Bald Patches

Hair powder

Coloured hair powder is perfect for concealing tiny bald patches without the use of costly extensions or hair pieces. They blend in beautifully with the natural colour of your hair, and don’t create irritation or leave behind any visible residue on the scalp.

Extensions

A popular way to conceal any patches of baldness is by using extensions. If you have a special event coming up, and want to create the illusion of thicker hair, then use clip-ins. They are super easy to blend into the hairline, and look flawless when styled in an updo or braided look.

Office Appropriate Hairstyles For Long Hair

Anyone with really long hair knows that styling it on a good day can often be a pain. Ponytails always slip out of place, buns never hold, and who has 30 minutes each morning to tame those locks in general?

If you need a few easy hairstyles for the office, try a few of our suggestions down below, and let us know if they work for you!

RELATED: Half-Up Fishtail Braid Tutorial

Low bun

Rather than spending half of the morning threading your hair through a sock bun, keep it simple and wear your hair down low. Spritz with a sea-salt spray to keep it nice and sleek, then gather the hair and tie into a bun on the nape of your neck. Use a few extra bobby pins to tame those stray hairs or shorter layers around the face.

Office Appropriate Hairstyles For Long Hair

Simple braid

Wear your hair down and create two little braids just above each ear. This should keep any stray hairs away from your face while you work, and won’t disrupt you during the day. Once you have braided each side, meet in the middle and fasten with a clear elastic for extra hold.

Office Appropriate Hairstyles For Long Hair

Inside-out ponytail

Keep your ponytail down low (in the middle of your head), since it won’t drop from this position after a hard day at work. Back-comb your hair, and fasten with a clear elastic. Then create a small hole just above the elastic, and thread through your ponytail. This creates a cute look which spices up your standard ponytail.

Office Appropriate Hairstyles For Long Hair

Fishtail braid

Keep your hair in place all day long by creating a quick and easy fishtail braid. Divide hair into two parts, and pull a thin piece of hair over the first section, and add this over to the second. Repeat this step on the other side, and secure with an elastic band. For a messier look, tug at the braid on both sides.

No-Stress Hairstyles For Short Hair

Below are a few key hairstyles to keep your locks manageable and looking stylish at the same time.

Soft curls

Give your hair a bouncy look by curling small pieces with a wand, or even with the use of sea-salt spray. Since your hair is short enough to dry naturally, mist lightly with sea-salt spray and scrunch with your fingers. The result? A beachy style which looks really natural, and takes less than 5 minutes to create.

No-Stress Hairstyles For Short Hair

Bangs

Cutting some soft bangs not only frames the entire face, but gives you a little bit more to work with. You can wear them straight, curly, or even pinned back to create the illusion of thicker hair. Our favourite way to style bangs is by using a round brush, and styling backwards with the help of a hair dryer.

No-Stress Hairstyles For Short Hair

High ponytail

This works best on hair which is straight and has little to no layers, and is also quick and easy! Simply comb back all your hair, and secure in a high bun. Leave out any front layers to go with this beach-inspired look.

No-Stress Hairstyles For Short Hair

Low bun

If your hair is extremely short and layered, then a low bun is one of the best ways to switch up your look. Use mostly bobby pins to section your hair, and create tiny braids which are perfectly for almost any outing. Don’t forget to mist lightly with hairspray for that extra hold!

2. Apply a few pumps of a nourishing hair oil onto the ends of your hair while it’s still wet. Don’t get any of this product on the root of your hair since it can make it quite oily and difficult to style. Dry your hair naturally or on a low setting to avoid follicle breakage.

Lee Stafford Argan Oil, $20.95

3. Once hair has completely dried, section it off and start from the bottom. Use a straightening iron on small pieces of hair (the smaller, the better), and straighten slowly to avoid missing any strands.

Klorane Strengthening Serum with Quinine-Caffeine Complex, $32.95

3. To create those signature curls, use a wand, iron, or old-school rollers; it just depends on what you’re most comfortable with! If you are using a curling wand, section hair with a clip and start from top to bottom. This will ensure that the curls at the top will last, and won’t drop in the process.

4. Wrap small pieces of hair around the wand for 5-7 seconds, then release and shake the hair. This creates a classic, curl which doesn’t look too refined.

5. After you’re done, lightly spray your roots with a sea-salt spray. Work the product in with your fingers to create some extra volume before heading out the door.

Half-up half-down

Hilary Duff wears this style perfectly, making it look sexy and sophisticated at the same time. Ideal for girls with a few longer layers, to achieve that 70’s bombshell look with a touch of volumising spray and powder. Lightly curl the ends of your hair and spritz with sea-salt so they can maintain some subtle bounce.

2

Soft bangs

Bring a level of warmth to your face by chopping some soft side-bangs just before the wedding. Choose a wispy finish which leaves hair looking side-swept and gorgeous, as opposed to a severe straight-chop which could age your face. A few subtle highlights never hurt!

3

1950s inspired

Keep short hair looking neat and tidy with two reverse braids pinned in the middle of the scalp. Not only is this hairstyle quick and easy, it also looks amazing on girls with a hint of balayage, and also photographs beautifully.

4

Hair accessories

If your wedding is taking place during the warmer months of the year, why not take advantage of this and wear some fresh flowers in your hair? A flower garland is the perfect accessory for long, layered hair, without looking too over-the-top.

Tips and Tricks For Thinning Hair

Whether your hair is going through a shedding cycle, or is starting to thin along the forehead, it isn’t the end of the world!

This could be caused by a shift in hormones such as having a baby, brushing hair too vigorously, or using extensions on already frail hair. Here are a couple effective ways to bring thin hair back to life on a budget.

RELATED: Volume Boosting Tips For Thin Hair

Volumising products

Use a volumising hair mousse or spray on your roots to give hair an extra lift. Apply product directly on damp hair, and massage gently with your fingertips. Leave your locks to dry naturally, or use a hairdryer on low heat and concentrate on drying your roots.

Apple cider vinegar

Raw apple cider vinegar is an amazing organic product to use on hair which is thinning out. It helps to remove dead skin cells from the scalp, but also create the illusion of texture on sparse locks.

Take it easy

Constantly touching, washing, processing, and colouring hair can leave it dry and brittle. Give it a break and leave hair down, or in a loose braid when you’re at home. Sometimes shedding occurs when hair has been up in a bun or ponytail for extended periods of time – it needs a break!

Massage

Give your scalp a massage to stimulate hair growth at least once a week. Apply lavender oil directly onto your scalp, and gently run your fingers in circular motions all over your head. Certain types of hair loss responds to essential oils, some including cedarwood, rosemary, and thyme – all of which are easy to get your hands on!

Hair mask

Use an all natural hair mask such as coconut oil and apply all over your roots and ends. This not only exfoliates a dry scalp, but repairs damaged hair follicles, and removes any excess oils from your hair.

Eat more… eggs?

Eggs are loaded with a nutrient called biotin which directly contributes to healthy skin, hair, and nails. You could also take a biotin supplement, but it’s best to have it in its purest form.

Ponytail Ideas For Long Hair

Elegant up-dos for girls with long, thick hair can often prove difficult, especially since your locks are bound to drop throughout the day. We’ve come up with some quick and easy ways to style long hair in a fool-proof ponytail for the party season.

RELATED: 5 Long Celebrity Hairstyles We Love

Low ponytail

If your hair has the tendency to drop throughout the day, choose a hairstyle which requires little or no maintenance. Create some volume at the roots by using a voluminous hair mousse on damp locks, and letting it dry naturally. Once hair is dry, backcomb the roots, and tie into a low ponytail.

1

Wrapped ponytail

Disguise your elastic by wrapping a small section of hair around the ponytail. This is an elegant look which is appropriate for the day and night if you have a special event on the cards. Once hair is in a ponytail, curl the ends and secure with some setting spray.

2

Braided ponytail

For an extra bit of volume on fine hair, create a french braid just above your ear and stop about mid-way through to the other side. Then section off each part of your hair, and combine in a side ponytail.

3

Inside-out ponytail

Create a chic-updo by braiding hair at the nape of your neck, then flipping it inside out. This will keep your ponytail in place all day, and also keep any stray hairs away from your face. A ponytail like this looks particularly elegant on someone with subtle highlights in their hair, or even balayage.
