Get The Look – Kendall Jenner’s Glowing Skin

While everyone won’t stop talking about younger sister Kylie’s plump lips, it’s Kendall who really has the enviable glowing skin. Easily recreate this look with a few key products which are definitely our holy grail here at SHESAID.

RELATED: Eat Your Way To Glowing Skin

Instructions

1. To create a flawless looking base for your makeup, make sure to moisturise your skin before applying any other product. Something light is best since it won’t clog your pores, and will hold the makeup for a very long time.

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel, $49

2. Once your moisturiser has completely set into the skin, use a light-diffusing primer to create Kendall’s glow. A pea-sized amount is just enough for your entire face, and you should focus the product into your cheeks, forehead and chin for best results.

Bourjois Happy Light Luminous Serum Primer, $21

3. Use a foundation which won’t give a ‘cakey’ look, but instead choose something that will work well with the primer. Dab the foundation on your forehead, cheeks and chin, then blend in with a stippling brush.

Chanel Vitalumiere Moisture-Rich Radiance Sunscreen Fluid Makeup, $68

4. To mask any dark circles under your eyes, use a concealer and your fingers to get a natural look. Blend the product carefully around your eyes, and use a damp cosmetic sponge to remove any excess makeup.

5. Set your foundation with a translucent powder under the eyes, around the sides of the nose, and on the chin.

Looking to impress on your first date? With the outfit sorted, it’s time to focus on hair and makeup (which can take a few hours to prep until you’re ready to head out the door!). Try the following 5 makeup looks, which suit every single date option and are ideal for even beginners – you don’t need to be a makeup artist for this!

RELATED: Makeup Trend – Sheer Lipstick

Voluminous lashes

Up the ante by wearing some individual false lashes to create the illusion of volume on your lashes. Use an eyelash curler to prep your lashes, follow up with layers of mascara, then apply some individual false lashes on the corners of your eyes for extra volume. Don’t forget to tight-line your eyes to give a boost of colour to the eyes!

5 First-Date Makeup Looks

Highlighter

Give your skin a boost of dimension by highlighting the cheekbones, brow bone and cupids bow. Choose a shimmery highlighting duo and blend it over (or under) your foundation for more effect.

5 First-Date Makeup Looks

Smokey eye

Choose a classic smokey eye if you want to stick to something you know for a first date. It’s almost impossible to ruin this look (even for beginners) – it’s all about blending, blending, blending! Make sure to use a clean, fluffy brush for each shade so it doesn’t look muddy.

5 First-Date Makeup Looks

Winged liner

If you’re feeling rather confident, why not try a cat-eye flick? This stunning makeup look can be easily created using tape for a flawless flick. Simply apply one strip on the bottom waterline and another on the top, then fill in the gaps with a felt-tip liner.

5 First-Date Makeup Looks

Bold lips

Skip the contouring and highlighting in favour of a bold lip for a first date. Choose a matte lip stain if you want something which requires little to no maintenance and remember to use a lip liner to guide the colour.

How To Wear Pastel Makeup For Summer

There’s no denying that summer is all about embracing lighter, brighter makeup for both day and night. Use this to your advantage and master the pastel trend for eyes, lips, cheeks and nails with our easy tips below.

RELATED: 20 Drugstore Cosmetics Under $20

Eyeshadow

If you suffer from extremely oily eyelids or simply want your makeup to stay put for hours on end, use a cream shadow. They are so quick and easy to apply if you’re on-the-go and require no touch-ups. Look at the colour wheel and choose opposing shades which will pop on your eyes.

How To Wear Pastel Makeup

Mascara

Put away that black mascara in favour of something a little more festive! If your lashes are naturally light brown or blonde, use a blue or brown mascara to make your eyes stand out. Just remember to curl them for best results!

How To Wear Pastel Makeup

Lips

We’re all about those light pink lips, and a subtle lip liner is the best way to make this happen. Carefully line your lips emphasising the cupids bow in the centre, then fill in any gaps with a lipstick of similar colour.

How To Wear Pastel Makeup

Cheeks

To achieve those rosy cheeks, use a cream or tint on the inside of your face. This brings a healthy, youthful glow and blends in beautifully for all skin tones – even those which are more dry and dehydrated!

How To Wear Pastel Makeup

Nails

Finish off this look with a vibrant manicure which will be your go-to all summer long. For best results, soak your nails in a bowl of lukewarm water, push back the cuticle and file your nails. Wait until each layer of nail polish has dried completely before securing it all with a top coat.

Get The Look: Upside Down Cat Eye

Give a modern twist to the classic cat eye look by tweaking just one factor – turning it upside down!

This unique look is easy enough for both beginners and experienced makeup artists, and is perfect for almost any type of occasion you can think of. All you need is a black eyeliner (gel, cream, or felt-tip) to get started.

RELATED: How To Wear Coloured Makeup

What you need

  • Eyeliner (of course)
  • Mascara
  • Cotton tips
  • Micellar water (or makeup remover for smoothing out any lines)

Instructions

  1. Prep your eyes with a primer to keep the colour lasting for longer, and also if you suffer from really oily eyelids.
  2. Line the bottom water line with a thin, black kohl pencil. This will create the very basis of your look.
  3. Use an angled brush, then dip it into the tip of the mascara. Carefully draw a line which extends from the lower lash line and outwards into the outer corner.
  4. To create the cat eye itself, place a sticky note extending from the outer corner, then simply use a felt-tip liner to draw the end. Draw it on as carefully as you can, then fill it in with the same angled brush.
  5. Simply remove the sticky note and use a cotton tip dipped in makeup remover to tidy up the flick.

Where: Peter Som

While this look may take a bit of convincing, it is definitely a big change if you’re accustomed to a more subtle colour palette. Use a cream eyeshadow stick to emphasise the inner corner of your eyes, and blend out with your fingers. Coat lashes in black mascara, but only after curling them well!

Blue ombré eyes

Where: Elie Saab

Emphasise the shade of your eyes by creating an ombré smokey eye-look. Create the illusion of big eyes by placing a lighter shade at the inner corner, and top-off with a shimmer highlighter. Place the same shade in your lower waterline, and blend everything out to dissolve any harsh lines of contour.

Kirsten Dunst’s No-Makeup Tutorial

If we could recreate just one makeup look every single day, it would have to be of actress Kirsten Dunst.

With skin that is always glowing, rosy cheeks, and glossy lips, this is definitely a quick and easy look which is perfect if you’re constantly on-the-go. Here are some quick tips on how to copy her (no-makeup) makeup look at home!

RELATED: How To Apply A Lip Stain

Moisturiser

To keep skin feeling hydrated all day long, use a rich moisturiser which won’t cause dry patches or irritate the skin. Apply a pea-sized amount all of the face and neck, then wait for it to dry completely. This particular product is ideal for women who suffer from extremely dehydrated and sensitive skin.

Screen shot 2014-12-26 at 2.23.33 PM

Bioderma Hydrabio Rich Cream, $39.99

Foundation

You can skip this step if your skin is mostly free from blemishes or simply doesn’t have a reddish undertone. If you have a few blemishes, use a lightweight powder foundation to even out your skin tone. Dust lightly with a powder brush over the face and neck, avoiding the eye area.

Screen shot 2014-12-26 at 2.26.53 PM

Laura Mercier Mineral Powder SPF15, $65

Cheeks

Create a subtle hint of colour on your cheeks by using a liquid blush. This not only settles well into the skin, but keeps your face looking natural and radiant. Most cheek tints can also be used on the lips, so don’t be afraid to use this in the centre of your lips if you’re on-the-go!

Screen shot 2014-12-26 at 2.28.32 PM

ModelCo Cheek & Lips, $24

Lashes

For flirty lashes, skip the eye liner and use just a mascara to create the illusion of bigger eyes. Curl your lashes, then apply a thin coat of mascara onto both the top and bottom. Feel free to curl lashes once again once the mascara has dried.

Screen shot 2014-12-26 at 2.31.00 PM

It Cosmetics Hello Lashes Clinically Proven 5-in-1 Mascara, $24

Lips

Kirsten never wears anything too harsh on her lips, so something like a glossy lip tint is perfect for finishing this look. Choose coral shades if you have an olive-dark complexion, or pink/purple shades for a fair complexion. Most of these chubby sticks can also be used as a blush and eyeshadow as well!

Makeup Looks For Green Eyes

Do you have green eyes? Well you’re in luck! Not only do green eyes look amazing paired with almost any eyeshadow, they’re also really easy to pair with mascara, eyeliner and even brow-taming products.

Use the following ideas an inspiration if you’re finding it difficult to create a flattering makeup look for green eyes.

RELATED: Purple Smokey Eye Tutorial

Warm taupe

Any shade which is on the opposite side of the colour-wheel suits green eyes best. Taupe is a neutral which is flattering for all colours, but particularly suits green eyes because it brings out the brown undertones. Cream, liquid, and powder eyeshadows all compliment green eyes, and they’re super easy to apply! Use an eye primer to prep the skin, so it can hold onto the product and last for hours.

Purple

You can’t go past an eyeshadow palette without seeing some kind of purple shade. This is ideal for green eyes since it makes them look even lighter when paired with falsies and a prominent brow! Dab a bit of purple eyeshadow on the outer corner of your eyes, and blend out with an eyeshadow brush to create a twist on the classic smokey eye.

Dark green

Similarly, any dark shade of emerald green works beautifully on hazel or light-green eyes. It makes your eyes appear larger than they are, and is suitable for a day or night look. Use a cream eyeshadow pencil to easily apply product all over the lid, and blend with your fingers for a seamless look.

Copper

Any earth-toned shimmery eyeshadow suits blue or green eyes, and makes them look exotic and intense. Baked eyeshadows are perfect for this because they are used with a few drops of water to create a stay-all-day shade which doesn’t crease. Use on the inner corner to create the illusion of bigger eyes.

5 Lipstick Shades For Summer

Who doesn’t love the warmer weather? We bid adieu to winter coats, the days are longer and even the makeup we use also changes. Embracing a bolder lip colour all comes down to your own individual confidence, as well as your own skin tone. We share with you some of our favourite summer-inspired lip products which will surely ease you into the bright-lip trend!

Orange

Orange is definitely the new red! Not only are orange toned lipsticks easier to wear, but they suit almost every skin tone as well. Rather than their high maintenance counterpart, orange lipsticks generally don’t require a lip liner, and can be worn as a lip stain for a fun pop of colour.

We recommend: MAC Cosmetics Morange Lipstick, $36

Nude

Tone down your makeup look by applying a sheer, nude lipstick for a sultry disposition. There are many shades of nude lipsticks for fair, medium and darker skin which are really low maintenance and available almost anywhere.

We recommend: Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in Nude Pink, $11.95

Pink

We cannot resist a pop of pink colour for the spring season, and this is certainly no exception! The best way to wear a baby pink lipstick is by applying the product with a lip-brush. This will ensure a perfection application every single time, and will buff the product flawlessly into your lips.

We recommend: ModelCo Party Proof Lipstick in Parisian Pink

Coral

Go for a neutral makeup look with a dash of colour with a classic coral shade on your lips. Coral tones suit every skin tone, but look amazing on medium and darker skin when paired with a winged liner.

We recommend: Nars Lipstick in Casablanca, $35

Plum

Who said that darker tones were only reserved for the colder months? Choose a plum or darker shade which is of a sheer formula, since this will give your lips a pop of colour without being too harsh.

We recommend: Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Shine, $55

DIY Ombré Lips

Ombré seems to be the latest trend which we all are dying to incorporate into our makeup, haircare and wardrobe looks of the season. To create a subtle ombré effect, simply use two different shades on your lips to create a gradient effect – and don’t forget to blend in well!

What you will need:

1 dark lipstick

1 dark lipliner

1 shimmery powder eyeshadow

1 small, flat brush to blend

Clean toothbrush

Instructions

1. Give your lips a good scrub with a clean toothbrush, since this will remove any dry or dead skin cells.

2. Put on your darker lipstick as usual. If you find it particularly difficult, use a lip brush to carefully apply the colour to your top and bottom lips.

3. Line your lips with the dark lipliner, and pay special attention to the corners of your mouth. Blend the liner into the lips so there aren’t any visible, harsh lines.

4. Instead of using a lighter lipstick, apply a small amount of highlighting eyeshadow on the centre of your bottom lip. This will create the lighter, gradient effect without packing on too much product. Make sure to blend it in well into the middle of your lips.

5. Use a gloss on your lips for a pouty look!

L’Oreal Launches Genius Makeup App

L’Oréal will soon launch Makeup Genius, an app that allows you to try on 300 colour cosmetics from its virtual shelves by turning your iPhone into a mirror, according to Women’s Wear Daily. It basically uses a snapshot of your face and can apply your selected shadow, rouge or lipstick in all the right places by recognising the difference between the skin on your eyes, lips and face. It works on all ethnicities, allows for 400 lighting situations, and you can tilt your face backwards and forwards as if you’re looking in a mirror.

This allows you to try before you buy. Up until now, it’s only when you get home and test your colour wares that you’ll find out if you suit a colour or not.

WWD says in the US, beauty stores will be installing L’Oréal’s Makeup Genius app on what they’re calling digital terminals, so you can try the app before you download that, too. The price is yet to be confirmed but we think it’s worth the investment.

Get The Look: Dianna Agron’s Retro Makeup

How pretty does Dianna Agron look at last week’s Whitney Museum of American Art Gala & Studio Party in New York last week! Her inspiration? Vogue magazines from the early 1960’s, which you can see in the pastel blue eyeshadow, bubblegum pink lips and soft beehive.

Here are the makeup tips and exact products used direct from celebrity makeup artist Daniel Martin so you can recreate Dianna’s pretty retro makeup at home!

Skin
Daniel started by creating Dianna’s flawless base with Giorgio Armani Maestro Cream Compact Foundation in #5.5 and Maestro Eraser Concealer in #4.

To get Dianna’s gorgeous glow, he applied Giorgio Armani Fluid Sheer in #2 on the cheeks and on the bridge of the nose to reflect the light.

Finally, Daniel set her makeup with Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Powder #5.

Cheeks
For Dianna’s rosy cheeks, Daniel used Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush in #2 on the cheeks, and #5 to sculpt and create definition.

Eyes
For those pretty pastel eyes, Daniel used the Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Eyeshadow Quad in Pantelleria, setting the look with a thick line and flick using Maestro Liquid Eyeliner on the upper lash line, and finally Eyes To Kill Mascara on the lashes.

Lips
Dianna’s pretty-in-pink hue is simply a slick of Giorgio Armani Rouge Ecstasy in #504 Flesh.

Fab Foundations

1. Revlon Age Defying Makeup With Botafirm?
The first plus about this foundation is it has SPF15. Although it feels thick out of the bottle, it thins out upon application and blending. The coverage is light to light/medium, it blends well with the skin and doesn?t make you look like you are wearing mask-like foundation. Although there was no major visible difference in reduction of lines, but when used with Revlon Age Defying Skin Smoothing Powder with Botafirm?, there is a smooth, matte finish.
RRP $36.95 Revlon Age Defying Makeup With Botafirm SPF15. RRP $32.95 Revlon Age Defying Skin Smoothing Powder with Botafirm?. For stockists information contact 1800 025 488

1. Bloom Compact & Liquid Foundation
In the past I have found most compact foundations too heavy on the skin and enhancing the appearance of fine lines. So it was with hesitation that I accepted the challenge to Bloom Compact Foundation. The good news: I now have a new favourite foundation! The coverage is light and provides a good base for makeup whilst retaining a natural appearance. There?s no need to touch up regularly as it holds its freshness for a good 12 hours without replying. Definitely worth the purchase! Bloom also had a liquid foundation which is a perfect light foundation. The best feature is that it contains Lavender Essential Oil. Not only do you look fabulous but it smells amazing too!
RRP $15 Bloom compact foundation, $30 for refil
RRP $35 Liquid Foundation Stockists: 03 9421 0200

2. Estee Lauder Aeromatte Ultralucent Pressed Powder
The Aeromatte Ultralucent Pressed Powder feels like heaven on your face and is perfect to keep in your handbag for that quick touch up at work or when you are out at night. Great if you don?t want to re-apply your foundation during the day but you like a little extra coverage. Also recommended from Estee Lauder is the Ideal Matte Refinishing Compact. It was launched last year as a natural looking alternative matte foundation. The benefits of flawless looking skin is now available in compact from with Ideal Matte Refinishing Compact Makeup. This compact is smooth and creamy in texture, glides easily onto the skin and blends fantastically with moisturisers or a tinted moisturiser, as was my preference. This product contains advanced pigments that ensures your makeup won?t streak or look cakey, which is certainly the case with this compact. Highly recommended!
RRP $68 AeroMatte Ultralucent Pressed Powder
RRP $66 Matte Refinishing Compact Makeup. Available at Est?e Lauder counters

3. Palladio Herbal Wet-Dry Foundation
The texture and application of this powder is fantastic. You can’t tell you are wearing it after you put it on as it blends well with skin rather than masking it. Apply wet for maximum all day coverage or dry for a natural smooth look. Good packaging and the application sponge is far superior to some provided by other cosmetic companies. Enriched with Ginseng, Green Tea, Gingko Biloba, Chamomile and Aloe Vera, the foundation powder feels soft on the skin and doesn?t clog pores.
RRP $32.95 Stockists: (03) 9557 5755

4. YSL Compact Foundation Matt Finish
This is one of the best foundation products on the market! Convenient, elegant and efficient the YSL compact is a must for anyone that likes constant coverage all day long without your makeup looking like it is ?caked on?. This compact gives a velvety texture to your skin and even has SPF 15 in it for sun protection as well as beautiful coverage to ensure a natural finish to you skin. No need to apply several times a day as this makeup seems to last and the fact it is refillable makes it all the better for your budget ? not cheap but definitely worth the extra dollars! Go on splurge on this one!
RRP $89.00 Stockists: (02) 9965 9722

5. Sax Moisturising Foundation
This foundation is not for those who prefer a light covering on their face but is perfect for chicks that like their foundation strong and long lasting. Not such a great product for those ?tinted moisturiser? fans as they will probably find this foundation too heavy. It?s long lasting, however, and goes on smooth and creamy.
