Get the Look: Katy Perry’s Glam Retro Makeup

Katy Perry rocked the perfect retro makeup look at the American Music Awards 2013, pairing her gorgeous rock-prom Oscar de la Renta gown with classic red lips and va-va-voom lashes. Here’s how celebrity makeup artist Jake Bailey created the look using COVERGIRL.

Skin
Jake started with a sheer application of COVERGIRL Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation in Buff Beige #825. “This foundation is perfect for the red carpet because it provides full coverage but can be blended sheerly for light yet durable coverage,” said Jake. “It lasts forever and the 20 SPF is great for a daytime red carpet event because they have to stand in the sun for so long!”

To set the foundation, he finished with a light dusting of COVERGIRL + Olay Pressed Powder in Light #330.

For Katy’s rosy, radiant blush, Jake applied Clean Glow Blush in Roses #100 on the apples of her cheeks.

Eyes
Jake created a classic Hollywood eye line using COVERGIRL Liquiline Blast Eyeliner in Black Fire #410. He then deepened the crease of her lid using Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Melted Caramel #330.

For Katy’s seriously black lashes, Jake finished with Bombshell Volume Mascara in Very Black #800.

Lips
For Katy’s classic red lip, Jake used COVERGIRL LipPerfection in Hot #305 with matching liner, using the liner to create the perfect lip shape before filling in with lipstick.

Get the Look: Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Makeup

The 2013 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was held in New York City yesterday. Supermodels including Karlie Kloss, Alessandra Ambrosio, Cara Delevingne, Doutzen Kroes and Aussie Jessica Hart strutted down the catwalk in a glittering cavalcade of skimpy lingerie, paired with sexy makeup of bronzed glowing skin, come-hither smokey eyes and a glossy nude pout.

Here’s how to get the Victoria’s Secret Angels makeup direct from backstage makeup artist Dick Page (with some amazing makeup tips even we didn’t know about!).

Face
“I start off with lipstick on the nose and the cheeks and buff it in with a brush,” Page told Grazia UK. “It’s a rosy shade and then I follow it with foundation and tinted moisturiser which is also blended with a brush. I’m looking to create something that is very transparent and light.”

Page used the multi-purpose VS Tinted Moisturizer & Primer SPF 15 on the face.

On the cheeks, apply VS Makeup Mineral Blush Duo in Starlet, a pretty light pink shade that adds a natural flush to all skin tones.

Eyes
Page applied just a little bit of VS Makeup Eye Liner in Dark Chocolate and completed the eyes with theVS Makeup Eye Quad in Eye Contact.

“Then I’ll let the girls apply their own mascara. I could be gone for days and they’d still be doing it.” His mascara of choice? VS Makeup Volume Lift Mascara.

Lips
For that sexy glossy pout, use VS Makeup Color Drama Lipstick in Flawless.

Get The Look: Jessica Biel’s Red Carpet Makeup

Not only is Jessica Biel’s makeup for the Hollywood premiere of Total Recall flawless, but we think it’s the perfect makeup for a spring wedding (even if you’re not marrying Mr Timberlake!). Here’s how celebrity makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua created the look using Chanel.

Skincare:

Chanel Sublimage La Crème Yeux Ultimate Regeneration Eye Cream.

Foundation:

I applied Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting Makeup SPF 15 in Beige 20 to even out skin tone, then Chanel Eclat Lumiere Highlighting Face Pen in Light Medium to highlight cheekbones and brow bones. Lastly, to set the look, I used Chanel Natural Finish Pressed Powder in Natural.

Blush:

I applied Chanel Powder Blush in Rose Ecrin to create soft looking cheeks.

Eyes:

Instead of creating a retro black hard line across her entire lash line, I opted to soften the look by placing Chanel Long-Lasting Waterproof Eyeliner in Grenat just on the outer and inner eye. I applied Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir lightly to define eyelashes.

Lips:

On the lips I used Chanel Precision Lip Definer in Praline D‘Or lightly to round out upper lip line slightly and then added Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Superstition all over the lips.

Get The Look: Miranda Kerr For David Jones – how to

?Napoleon Perdis shares his favourite makeup trends for spring/summer, looks that suit all skin tones.

“Spring/Summer is always about colour and this year it’s no different,” says Perdis. “Working with stylist Kelvin Harries, I had a preview of some of the pieces and noticed that there’s a strong trend for saturated primary colours – especially reds, oranges, and pinks. So I’ve reflected that direction through to two strong lip hues to anchor the whole look: a matte orange and a matte red.

“The other strong message for this season: it’s all about pastel power! I love a pastel palette for summer – for David Jones I’ve customised two gorgeous shades of eye shadow in a powdery blue and a soft spearmint. I’ve added some white into both hues to keep it chalky and totally matte. I think the spearmint is my favourite…and it looks amazing against brown eyes. The clash of pastels against the red and orange lips is a really modern way to wear colour – just keep it matte!

Napoleon’s how-to on Miranda Kerr:

Skin

“Just a little of The One Concealer and a light application of Camera Finish Powder Foundation.

Cheeks

“New Mosaic Powder in Flushing (a pretty mosaic of pink and peach hues) mixed with a little Loose Eye Dust in Starlight to highlight her cheek and brow bones.

Eyes

“I did some contouring work in her sockets with some subtle neutrals from a lab sample of my new Ultimate Nude Palette (available in October) and applied lots of Mesmer-Eyes Mascara to further accentuate those brilliant blue eyes.

“Then I managed to talk Miranda into lining the inner rim of her eyes with a brown pencil for a more casual smoky eye.

Lips

“I customised a colour for her which was a blend of DeVine Goddess Lipstick in Aphrodite pressed into the lips with some of my new NP Set Lip Balm With Benefits in Baja.”

Aside from wearing sunscreen, there are many other tricks I learned while travelling. Wearing light-coloured clothing will keep you cool and help to deflect the sun’s harmful rays. I always try to wear a hat and long-sleeves if possible, especially when filming during the middle of the day. The sun’s rays are the most harmful between 10am and 2pm.

2. Having grown up in Australia, I’m sure you’re also concerned with how the sun can damage our skin and lead to premature ageing. What are your tips for healthy-looking skin?

Personally I think prevention is one of the best ways to take care of your skin. Obviously when we spend a day at the beach as a family, we all wear the maximum SPF sunscreen and ‘slip slop slap’ every two hours, even if we haven’t been in the water. But I also make sure I wear a facial moisturiser with SPF30+ every day of the year regardless of the weather. It’s important to remember that even if you’re in a shaded area, damaging UV rays can still filter through clouds, clothing and the shade of a tree.

3. What are you top sun protection tips? What products do you use?

Keep your protection plan simple so you action it daily. If you need five different sunscreens for each member of the family, it becomes a hassle and will no doubt fall by the wayside. I swear by SunSense Ultra Milk for my body, and my husband and I both use SunSense Daily Face year round so we’re getting SPF30+ protection to fight off any further premature ageing.

4. What SPF do you use for yourself and your family?

SPF 30+ for everything.  We would never use anything with a lesser SPF.

5. Your best beauty tip?

Try to keep your skin as clean as possible, drink lots of wear and trust me, sunscreen really is something we should all be wearing daily. Only let a professional touch your eyebrows and leave the perm for poodles!

6. What is your top beauty bargain?

You can’t go past what the kitchen cupboard has to offer! I’ve always loved homemade remedies like oatmeal masks, Manuka honey for grazes and cuts, sugar body scrubs and a dollop of olive oil in your bath.

7. What are your beauty bag essentials?
I’m into easy beauty. SunSense Daily Face, Lanolin on the lips, olive oil on the nails…and just about everywhere else for that matter.

Catriona is a big believer in sun protection. So much so she is the ambassador for an important education program travelling the country this summer. The SunSensibility UV Photobus is a roving skin clinic that offers free UV skin checks in a bid to educate us all on better protection practices and how we may just be able to reverse some of the damage done.

“I was a shocked to see the results of my UV image,” said Rowntree. “Sure, I’ve spent virtually every day outdoors growing up in Australia and travelling for work, but I thought because I’d worn a daily SPF for 20 years I’d be fine. Nope, you can never be too careful…. and it goes to show that SPF in makeup isn’t enough to prevent skin damage. It’s been an important wake-up call and something I’d encourage everyone to do if they can.”
